For those who may have an interest in the actual dates we're talking about given this is an event, which means it must have a date and a time, it is June 10-12 2011.

Celebrate Fairfax has a somewhat hefty admissions charge. There are still free admission festivals this summer including The Herndon Festival in early june, (featuring the Family Stone-sans Sly), and Rockville's Hometown Holidays Memorial day weekend. Rockville has not announced their musical act yet.

It used to be there would be a festival featuring musical acts every weekend from Memorial Day through the third week in June. The order was Rockville Hometown Holidays, Herndon Festival, Alexandria Red Cross Festival, Celebrate Fairfax, and Crystal City Rocks. I used to take my kids to all of them.

Crystal City Rocks and Alexandria Waterfront Festival have been gone for a couple of years now. So has a Taste of DC (once in August, moved to October, now gone). Speaking of music festivals, Loudon County Summer Music series in now on hiatus, and most likely will not be returning.

Well I care FUN
sorry to hear about the demise of the Loudon County Summer Music series . i've gone to a few shows over the years. No big corporation in Loudon can step up and fund the series!

Interesting to see the Legwarmers booked at Celebrate Fairfax since there a local outfit that plays constantly at State theatre I think the crowd can get a bit rowdy at their shows
packs of drunk 20somethings
on the otherhand i always felt Celebrate Fairfax should book a lot more local music acts. you know support music from the area. with maybe 1 big name outta town act.
Fairfax County Parks have a nice selection of free concerts which i believe they're still planning for this summer

Saw Susanna Hoffs with Matthew Sweet couple years back. She is one well preserved 50 year old

They do support local bands and local karaoke. Look at their webiste. All the others killed their festivals. Fairfax was able to keep it. Dont complain about the tickets buy them early online and i think they are like $5. You get more than $5 worth of free samples. $5 for a concert is nothing. there is petting zoo.

When the rumor went around that Hoffs dated Prince that did it for me. No appeal since then.

The petting zoo is animals from Reston. Not some band. You pet them.

I recall last year that there was a public access radio station at the fair broadcasting for the three days. It actually had some good programming. Any idea if they will be back this year?

Not a fan of the musical acts announced? Or the public access radio station?
