Roy Rogers at the Festival of Manchester Lakes
Posted by: Lamont ()

A recent trip to this area of the county brought delight to this numbnuts eyes when I spotted this Roy's. I must say a most delightful eating experience. The food was quite good, way better than the shit you get at Arby's these days. And I gather this location is owned and operated by the family that originated the idea for the roy rogers chain. Looks like they are building a new Roy's out in Manassas. Perhaps this will replace the one in Manassas Park on Centreville Road. that place has seen better days

In the mall across the street from the hospital. Where Guapo's used to be, next to Walgreen's.

Yep..sure is. I get down that way from time to time but I often find myself in the area of the new one. Also Leesburg has two but I am not often in up there. Roys is A#1 good and really miss having them everywhere like they were years ago. The chicken, burgers and roast beef are all good. And the fixin bar was a first for fast food years ago. But the chicken and Double-R-Burger and what I go for.

Years back Roy Rogers himself was in Fairfax for an opening. Some guy ran up and smashed a pie in his face.

Talk about old times. Do you remember Ginos?????? I had my first real job in high school at Ginos. I lasted 3 months. They did have great food. They were known for the Ginos Giant and they were the first in the area to sell KFC chicken before KFC had there own stores. Great memories.

Oh yeah, had my double R with a heap of fixins as a side salad yesterday! haha,
I just started going back to the one across from U Haul , the old managers never cleaned shit in that place before. It was a risk I wasn't willing to take on a regular basis.

The one by the hospital should be open pretty soon they are rolling right along building a brand new building.

I didn't think anyone remembered Ginos. How about Red Barn and Jack in the Box?

The Manchester Lakes Roy Rogers is a great place. Part of the Roys Remnant Triangle formed by the Manchester Lakes, Belle Haven, and Hybla Valley restaurants. Belle Haven forms the apex of the triangle, both physically and literally.

All 3 of these Roys are far superior to any of the nearby Arbys.

I don't think any Jack in the Boxes have ever been in this area. I do remember the old Red Barn. The old Ginos and Roys we much better.

There used to be a Jack in the Box in Vienna on 123, across from the Giant, where a Taco bell stands now. I remember my dad getting us food from Jack in the Box when I was a child and I grew up in Vienna. It was not there for long, though, and this was a long time ago (I am 37 now).

I also remember Roy Rogers. There used to be one where the Wendy's is now in Vienna. Growing up, my dad would take all of us to Roy Rogers after swim meets and I remember the fixing bar. I remember getting the combo meal and always giving my dad the cup of cole slaw since I did not like it. Neither did any of my siblings so my dad would have 4 cups of slaw in front of him. Recently I was in Leesburg not far from Wegmans and I saw a Roy Rogers. I stopped in and got myself food and fixed myself a side salad, just like the other posters stated :) It was really clean and the food was good and the people were nice.

I found that Jack in the Box made an attempt to come east in late 70's and into the early 80's and failed. They all were closed in the early 80's. The Popeyes in Annandale was a Jack in the Box.

I worked at one of the original Ginos in the Philly area in 1968. I checked out this website and this is far from the original Genos menu. The only thing close to original is the Giant. The chain was named after an old Colt football player in the 60's.

There used to be a Jack in the Box across the street from a Roys in Fairfax - at 29 and Gallows I think - The Roys was there until the late 80's

Man I wish that Jack in the Boxes were still in the area. I was addicted to their nasty tacos as a kid. And when business took me out west last year, I pigged out on those things every night, all week long.

My wife is from San Francisco so we go twice a year for a week at a time. We stay at a motel in South San Francisco that has a Carls Jr. right in front and a Jack in the Box across the street. Carls Jr. is a west coast burger place with killer charbroiled burgers. Every night when we are there it is either a 1/2 pounder and fries from Carls or tacos from Jack in the Box. The two made it a hard choice.

The Jack in the Box in Merrifield (29/Gallows) was replaced by the Taco Bell, until the building was razed in the name of "progress". Those were some nasty, delicious tacos, complete with the unmelted slice of american cheese in lieu of shredded mild cheddar, and the grease from the meat permeating through the shell!

I didn't know Vienna that well way back when, and did not know that there was a Roy's where Wendy's now is. There was definitely a Roy's at the corner of 123 and Nutley, where the Tequila Grande restaurant now operates.

Gino's was named for Gino Marchetti, who, as noted above, played for the Baltimore Colts. I saw one of the new Gino's recently up in King of Prussia PA, but did not have time to stop and check it out.

Red Barn, one in Falls Church at Annandale Rd. just off of Rt. 50, and one in Arlington on the street serving as the eastern border of Ballston Mall (back then, Parkington Shopping Center). Also, I think on Rt. 7 at the western side of Bailey's Crossroads (where Joe's Pizza was for a long time). Was a good change of pace, but others (Roy's, Burger Chef, etc.) were better.

There was a Jack In The Box in Annandale in the late 70s (now it's a Popeyes). This was at the other end of the John Marr Drive where the Ginos was (now that's a Burger King; originally it was Tops, iircc).

Ginos has one location open (in PA, I think) and will be opening some down here very soon.

Gino's used to have a location right in the center of the huge traffic circle mess at Seven Corners right at the point of one of those corners.

The Jack in the Box in FFX City used to be where Burger King is. Red Barn was where Angelico Pizza is. It was in the mid 70's.
