Why is Fairfax County Gasoline so expensive?

I paid 2.61/gal for regular unl. tonight. $75.00 worth!!!! (the pump cut off at that dollar ammt.)

Anyways, it was like getting almost two and a half gal. for free, as the VERY next gas station I passed once back into FFX Co., was 10c./gal more!

While I do regret passing the Exxon in Woodbridge, I did fill at the Sunoco in Lake Ridge. The Exxon on the adjacent corner was the same price...

Why does the price go up as soon as one passes into Fairfax County??

Get rid of the HumVee, asswipe. But, if you insist on keeping it, George W will buy your gas for you if you agree to drive around Baghdad.

When will you morons realize that the buggy ride is over....ONE THOUSAND CARS A DAY are joining the competition for fuel in China alone....similar figures in India.

These mutherfuckers are tired of pedaling those bicycles! This bodes VERY, VERY badly for petrol users worldwide.

However, as I've said before...I still pray for $10.00+ a gallon gas here in the good ole USA....or $15.00 a gallon....whatever it takes to force you speed racin', aggressive assholes to park your shit.

Why would you call me an "asswipe"?

Because my car needed gas and I filled my wife's vehicle up at the same time, equating the $75.00 fill-up?

I asked a question, not for an off-topic rant.

Relax.

You're an idiot on so many levels, that I feel almost overwhelmed. Yeah Duh, I'm sure you really are excited for the day oil costs so much to acquire / refine that gasoline prices reach over $10.00 a gallon. Do you plan to stop driving at that point or kill yourself? 'These mutherfuckers are tired of pedaling those bicycles' - yes, I guess that is a more educated way of eluding that as the cost of Asian manufactured vehicles is decreasing dramatically, and the number of non-imported hybrids is increasing so much, the middle class is now purchasing automobiles. In any event, when are your going to park your shit Duh? Science can really learn a lot from someone as stupid as you.

We have to have that fancy designer gas because of proximity to a city. Further out, they don't, so it's cheaper.

I'll never park my shit....I can afford $15 a gallon gas (might crimp my cruising a bit...boat holds 1200 gal diesel, OUCH).

But yeah.....I'd LOVE to see you morons max out ALL your cards and have to park your shit!

quite simply, we can afford it so they make us pay it. im sure taxes pay a role in it but it's simply "because they can." need proof? how about the fact that the cost of oil is at an all time high and yet the cost of gas is lower than year or so ago. they charge the most they can without seriously pissing off the general public. however, they seemed to have shoot themselves in the foot when the price went crazy as there is a lot of effort going into moving away from gasoline fuel. personally, im all for the hydrogen cars as "bio-diesel" is not sustainable.

I thought the winter formulation didn't start until November. There is a different blend for Northern Virginia for the winter (supposedly to reduce emissions) that usually runs about 5-10c more per gallon.

The Petroleum Industry calls it "geographical Pricing" Their argument is that the cost of land, taxes utilities blah blah blah... is higher the closer you head towards a major metropolitan area. Oh course this is mostly bullshit, Fairfax has a higher per capita income so they raise their prices accordingly. Fairfax County does not tax gas and the VA state tax is some of the lowest in the nation (thank you Republicans)It doesn't make sense when we have tank farms here in Lorton and Fairfax City yet a gas station out in the middle of bumfuck is cheaper. I'm not for bigger government but the Petroleum Industry needs more regulaqtion and price fixing laws inacted.

Interesting points, each of them.

I am most confused by the price of gasoline along Rt 123. Seriously: Start at US Rt.1 and go north.

At 123 and Rt1, it is about 2.69/gal reg unl.

Down at 123 before I95 all the way to the light before Occoquan, it is cheap! About 2.61/gal.

Go a few miles up the road into Fairfax County, and it now jumps to 2.71/gal.

Go into Burke Centre and it is about 2.87/gal.

Good thing Rt123 runs out at the Potomac, or we may climb all the way to 5.01 / gal!

Gas is still cheaper than a gallon of bottled Dasani or Aquafina (read: filtered tap) water and milk, by a thin margin. -§

crazy milk is more expensive than gas isnt it!

They used to say you shouldnt drink soda since they cost 3x that of gas.

A 2 liter bottle of soda cost on average $1 (i buy it at shoppers or on sale, for those of you who pay a buck fiddy) and 2 liters = approx 0.5 gallons, so at $2 a gallon soda is cheaper than gas.

beer still cost approx. 1.75 or so/12 oz bottle so thats still above 10 dollars a gallon (12 oz being 9% of a gal)

The lesson being here: buy beer in kegs.

Who the fuck do these 3rd world shit-skins think they are? They're simply not good enough for electricity and gasoline / cars. Best thing they can do is to set off enough nukes to wipe themselves out. America will do it eventually if they don't do it themselves.

Actually it was Sarah Palin. She scared so many people away from voting for John McCain that we got Obama.

Cheap gas is because the Arabs and Russians are dumping oil on the market regardless of the loss.

They are attempting to crush the U.S. oil industry.

Addressing OP’s question:

Underlying costs such as the cost of the land the station sits on which probably accounts for most of the difference in this instance.

Other factors impacting costs locally:

Convenience factor such a being close to an exit or easier to get in and out of

Attachments such as a store or restaurant. They may use cheaper gas to lure people into being higher margin items inside

Stations that aren't open extended hours may have higher prices because they are only selling during peak demand hours

Sell your damned gas guzzling, penis-compensating tanker of a vehicle and it won't cost you 75 bux

Gas has always been more expensive in Fairfax than in Prince William county...
The whole "Fairfax people are rich liberals" plays a major part in it...
