Springfield Faces Competition for 6,200 Army Jobs

When the U.S. Army agreed in late summer to rethink plans to move thousands of jobs to Fort Belvoir in southern Fairfax County, it did so largely on the promise of an alternative property in Springfield near Metro and Virginia Railway Express stations.

But quickly and quietly, another site, on private land in Alexandria, has emerged as a competitor. In recent weeks, its owners have pressed two congressmen as well as senior officials at the Pentagon to move the jobs there. And Fairfax leaders are crying foul.

Does anyone remember Cameron Station? And now the government is going to purchase land in Alexandria after the big plan to save money by closing Cameron Station and moving the Defense Logistics Agency and other units?

[The former Army Cameron Station consisted of 164 acres within the City of Alexandria, Virginia. Cameron Station was a sub-installation of the Fort Myer Military Community in Arlington, Virginia. Cameron Station was used as a general depot on land first purchased in 1941. Cameron Station provided administrative, commissary and post exchange support, as well as vehicle washing and maintenance shops, a steam plant and grounds maintenance. Cameron Station also served as the Headquarters location for the Defense Logistics Agency, as well as host to other smaller tenant activities including print shops and photographic laboratories.]

I really don't see anything wrong with the picture above. All I see are English letters that are strung together in a sort of way that form words and sentences. Is this an orginal or just a lithograph? -§

Cameron Sation was sold to developers and built up in the mid-late 90's into a nice "town center" type of living area. A far cry from what it was in the military days of occupation of that space.

The EPG in Springfield has been a hot area that Fairfax developers have sought to occupy more heavily - sounds like sour grapes over the govt. even considering not going there.


What am I missing???
