So I am reading the Post's front page story about a new gay bar in Herdon this morning and there is one thing I don't understand. It tells of when the manager first turned the place all gay and how he then had to go find a bunch of drag queens to hire as entertainment.

I don't get it, why is it that gay men and lesbians like to watch men dressed as women? If your gay and attracted to dudes, why do you want to see them dressed as women? Straight men don't prefer to see woman dressed as men so what's up with men dressed as chicks when you're not attracted to chicks?

Also, why must all gays bars feature drag queens? Why not simply a regular bar with booze and a DJ or traditional entertainment. Doesn't the drag queen thing get old??

Troll was there...you should have seen him belting out "Oh my man, I live him so!" There wasn't a dry eye (or pair of pants) in the club.

Probably because their couples are probably often configured in similar roles as heterosexual couples with one partner as the dominant male and the other partner as the subservient female... I don't know about gays, but I live next door to a lesbian couple and that's the makeup of their union. The older female even refers to the more attractive younger female as the wife.

To each their own. If you want to put your dollars in the panties of a harry fat guy in a dress then so be it.

Someone I worked with at AOL became a "lesbian".. Meaning HE was married to this girl. Decided HE was more comfortable as a woman.. Did the whole post op chest and banana split operation. He became a Her just so (s)he could be a lesbian with their wife. From my understanding their still together.

I'm gay and I don't understand the whole drag thing either. I don't think you need to have drag queens to be gay bar. As a matter of fact, it seems way to cliché and I suspect it will die within the year. The LGB community is incredibly diverse but the desire to develop one's own ghetto is gone. You find "gay" communities in major cities have disappeared as we move out into every neighborhood as singles or couples. We are you neighbors, employees and employers.

ive noticed that pretty much EVERY restaurant bar in northern virginia is full of dudes watching other dudes in tight clothes playing sports on the tv.

Leave it to the Wash Post to make that a front-page article!! No agenda there!! Also, the rest of us are supposed to be more accepting of the gay community when they act like that in public?? Can't wait until they have the high-heeled races like the drag queens at Dupont Circle...sure that will be covered by the local media as well...

its on the front page of the washington post because its astonishing that a community with over 1,000,000 residents waited until 2010 to open a single gay establishment.

just to give all of you boys,girls,and curious ones a heads up, the so addictive lounge at 733 elden st in herndon, is now a totally gay bar. cum one,cum all, that place is awesome.

Why does it have to be so gay? Looking at the WP article the place looks like a dump with trannys. I like the gays that are into interior design. They now how to have a great party.

The goods gays know how to throw a great party. That bar is just sad.

I thought they've had or have gay bars in Arlington and other NoVa towns. I used to eat at the Orleans Restaurant in downtown Rosslyn many years ago when I worked there, and I was told that it was a gay establishment at night.
