Volkswagen Will Move to Herndon

Sept. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Volkswagen AG, Europe's largest carmaker, will move its U.S. headquarters to Virginia from Michigan and eliminate 400 jobs after four consecutive years of losses in the country.

The company plans to cut 400 positions, move 400 people to a new headquarters outside Washington in Herndon, Virginia, and keep 600 people in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Andreas Meurer, a Volkswagen spokesman, said in a telephone interview today. The carmaker will invest $100 million in the Virginia office.

The work force is a lot more educated here.

They are moving to the business park off Sunrise Valley Drive near the new Harris Teeter: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Woodland+Pointe+Ave,+Herndon,+VA+20171,+USA&ie=UTF8&ll=38.950302,-77.394229&spn=0.011314,0.020084&t=h&z=16&om=1

A lot more educated and a lot more expensive. They'd really increase their operating costs in salaries compared to the MI market - - probably close to off-setting the operating costs of those laid off.

Fahrvergnügen HQ + senior level management jobs + relocating executives to rescue some higher priced local home sales = ok by me. -§

As stated in the press release, they are moving because of highly educated workforce in Herdon or will their address be Oak Hill?

I've owned several Volkswagens. I hope that this move of corporate headquarters will improve the ethics of the Springfield dealer. I don't have much hope for VWs assembled in Mexico. I've had a number of problems with my New Beetle and every repair was a challenge, often having to contact, I guess, the volks in Detroit. Also, the service manager said I needed a new AC unit a couple of years ago--the AC works fine--there was nothing wrong with it. When the Germans made the VW, it was a quality car.

I hope you had the dealer remove that rediculous looking daisy on the dashboard. I mean WTF were they thinking? -§

Our Deutsch cousins love the outdoors and flowers--that item is a small refinement. However, it neatly holds an American flag. True patriots will have an American flag in the holder.

A girl who lived with me for a while owned a new VW Bug. The VW kept falling apart. She had the passenger window motor fixed so many times we finally locked it in the up position.

Maybe I'm lucky - my Passat's been rock-solid for four years and 120,000+ miles. I've found that VW dealer service is expensive, but haven't had any issues with any of those I've been to. The coolest new Beetle I've seen is the yellow one in the Sterling/Herndon area with the Autobot decals.....

Awesome news for our area. Anytime we can attract large corporations, we are winners. Don't let Connelly or Kaine take credit though, it was Dulles airport and our established infrastructure that did it ;-)

Jerry Connelly gave them a nice six million dollar tax incentive, something the homeowners will never hope to see but are picking up the tab for lost revenue.

Krauts pulled this in '44. Told the frenchies they wanted to move their braunschweiger factories into eastern France. Next thing you know, Battle of the Bulge.

Don't trust them.

Volkswagen is moving here because most of its customers are on the East Coast (translation - gay businessmen).

I read today that Roger Staubach engineered this VW deal.

Man, those were the days.....Dallas vs. Redskins at RFK....I never missed one of those games. It's a wonder the upper deck didn't collapse!

This shit today don't even come close.
