Flint Hill School Gridlock

For those folks who must travel Jermantown Road east to 123, have you just about had it with the morning gridlock. Hit that intersection after 7 AM and you will wait for 3 - 4 two minutes + traffic cycles before you get through the intersection. Why is it that each child that attends Flint Hill Elementary must be driven to the school entrance in their mother's SUV to the school each morning. Far and away, each car carries 1 student. Didn't they ever hear of school buses?

Ok. My wife and I pass there everyday. It's not as bad as other intersections and roads we take. Sure, 2 cops for egress/ingress points to the school do act as additional traffic lights. All in all though, we don't think it's unbearable. That section sure as hell beats sitting on 66 or 495!!!

I have news for you. Fhs does have buses, I believe there are at least 4. Additionally, the majority of the cars that are in this traffic jam are commuters. The times when it really gets backed up is when there are accidents on 66 and 123, usually involving commuters, not students or the parents who drive them. Carpooling is difficult as students come from all over the county, not one particular neighborhood. There are high school students who do take the metro and are picked up by friends for the last few miles. Fhs is in the process of planning revisions to their car pool flow. This should help in the long run. The parents/students get as frustrated as anyone else who has to sit in traffic. Why are the commuters mostly single drivers also?

FHS has created huge traffic problems and has constantly lied to the County and State about the impact on traffic with each and every expansion.

A major problem is that FHS parents want to put on a daily show of their wealth by driving their kids to the campus in expensive cars.

This is thousands of cars on 123 and Jermantown Roads.

These idiots pay $40K per kid to send them to a substandard institution that does not result in better admissions to elite colleges and universities compared to FCPS.

Moreover, their kids get exposed to the "headmaster" who gives everyone the creeps.

Stop being such a whiner. Every school everywhere creates traffic issues at drop-off and pick-up times.

The FHS parents would not send there little darlings to FHS if they knew the sex and drugs that those kids are into. Parents are spending $40K per year to teach their kids how to be a druggie and wh*re, I do not get it.

I agree. Make them create a back entrance down Vale Road and go in and out of there. Jermantown is too critical to those getting on I66.

This is in essence the attitude of Flint Hill School (FHS) people. They think they are entitled since they pay $40K per year per child. They dos not seem to realize that the Oakton community is filled with doctors, lawyers, scientists, business executives, etc. who went to better schools and have accomplished much in life, mostly by their hard work and effort. Moreover, most Oakton residents have far more status and money than the FHS people. Indeed, the residents of Oakton do not have the inferiority complex that compels them to show off what they have like the FHS people.

The Oakton community is desirable not because of FHS, but because of the people who live and work in Oakton.

The traffic problems around FHS are due to this sense of entitlement by FHS people.

Specifically, every parent wants to drive their precious darling to school every day in a vehicle they cannot afford in order to put on a display of their wealth.
It is quite a sick and little perverted show that they have going on in front of their buildings every day.

As a result, there are a few thousand cars all trying to get to campus at the same time (i.e. just before classes start). This is insane.

If you notice, any Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) usually has several times more students than the entire FHS campus. The different is that FCPS parents are not transporting their kids to the school. Instead, the kids are ridding buses.

The County should tell FHS that either they figure out a way to solve the traffic problems they created at no cost to FC, or prohibit them from having every parent drop their kids off every day.

Again, what FHS is doing to Oakton should not be tolerated!

Are you fucking kidding me Joe in Vienna? Vienna is one of the biggest traffic nightmares in Northern Virginia. And they admit it is by design. They purposely time the lights so that traffic is basically brought to a standstill in the hopes that people will choose other routes and not commute through your special little town. Fuck Vienna.
