You frequently carry tunnels with you?

No! You remember it won't be a big deal. Traffic problems will be at a min. You really had to be imperceptive not to have seen this mess coming.

Of course the first misake was in trying to run Metro through the heart of Tysons to begin with. A better solution would have been to run the line along the fringe of Tysons with a couple of megastations, and used a dense network of either light rail or local busses to distribute passengers to the various Tysons destinations (to be paid for with a special taxing district) and to distribute Metro passengers and to facilitate those wanting to travel in the Tysons area. This would have resulted in lower construction costs, less disruption during construction, quicker Metro travel time from points west of Tysons to points east and better service in the Tysons area. Of course developers would never go for something like that because it would deprive them of the opportunity to claim their location was "on the Metro".

What's wrong with you? Don't let little things like "facts" and "evidence" get in the way of your pre-conceived notions!

And also, duh.

There's really no "fringe" of Tysons for them to work with. The only thing they could've done was to just follow the Toll Road the entire way. But, a major part of the plan was to urbanize Tysons, so that's why it's running smack dab thru the middle of it.

It hasn't really been that bad until about September, when they closed the Beltway ramp on 123 and put in a new traffic signal so that northbound 123 can now cut across and use the ramps on the other side of the road. It's kind of a fucking nightmare actually.

Wait til Christmas, when the nightmare really comes alive.

I plan to avoid that area like the plague from Black Friday until February of 2011. I assume by then that all the ungrateful bastards who hated the presents that their frazzled family & friends bought them will have had returned/exchanged them all by then.

December's always crazy but it usually settles back to "normal" after Christmas. However, I remember the last time New Year's fell on a weekend and traffic here was really really bad all weekend long.

Might have helped during these couple years of construction, but that's not really a long term solution. 20 years from now I think we'll be happier (hopefully) it's through the middle, and not the 'fringes', even if it's painful now.

The true nightmare will be the FFX County Pkwy/Fairlakes intersection when that construction really starts gearing up. I see they have already clear cut the right side of the southbound lanes. I pity all the folks that will be shopping @ Fairlakes this holiday season.
