Any classic muscle car restoration shops in NoVA?
Posted by: KryptoniteKid ()

I'm having a 67 mustang restored down in Texas right now and am thinking about having it shipped to Northern VA to get finished up. It needs a lot of work--everything from sheet metal and engine/trans install to paint and interior. Anyone know of any reputable shops?

What a coincidence...i have a 68 GTO convertible in Texas in storage and I'm also planning on bringing it up this fall...I don't know of any restoration shops here...but...have u decided who you'll have ship it? Have you checked out costs yet for that? I need a little engine work, and could use some body work, but especially the engine...smokes just a little, and it drives me nuts...let me know if you find a place, and I'll do the same...bill

Bubbas East Coast Rods and Customs just east of Fairfax Circle, behind the Cingular/AT&T store, does muscle cars! Good Guys..Don't let the name fool you, they have cars on hand being worked on and a photo album of previous work.

Bill - I haven't thought about shipping yet but I've had a car shipped with Bluebonnet Auto Transport and had a pretty smooth transaction. Don't know what the cost was, as the person on the receiving end paid for it. I would guess anywhere between $600 and $1000.

As for Bubba's East Coast Rods and Customs - do you have any contact info for them? I can't find a phone number or a website for them. Thanks!

Vondari Racing Team Truck Finds a New Garage

So we all know winter is here, and our reports tend to be sporadic at times until the springtime. That’s just the nature of a seasonal sport.

Those of you who know the Vondari family also know that racing is what drives us and we do our best to promote motorcycle road racing in the best way that we know how.

Well, if racing is what drives us, what about what we drive? We surround ourselves with certain things that we claim “we couldn’t live without†like cell phones, computers, and cars. Cars are simply a part of the American fabric these days – for a lot of people, what we drive is what defines us. For a lot of people, too, a car is just another modern day tool that we have to rely on to make ends meet.

However you feel about your car, when was the last time you got outstanding service – the kind of service that leaves you feeling confident about your car and one less thing to worry about? That happened to me, and I really feel compelled to tell folks about this experience.

I have a lot of pet projects. My biggest one is my ’89 Suburban sittin’ on 35s. Don’t laugh, it’s my dream car. Before I committed to getting any work done on this project, just like anyone else I did my research on shops to decide where to take my baby. The main concern was finding a shop that was going to exceed my expectations, not just meet them.

What were my criteria? Passion, pride, honesty, commitment, attitude, and creativity. My main concern was that I wanted someone who was passionate about what they do. Passion is what drives our race team, passions are what drives anyone to do their best – passion is what defines us as human beings. I wanted someone who takes pride in their work and won’t settle for second best. Honest work is always needed. Are they committed to not only doing their best but being the best and standing by their work? Does the shop represent itself with a professional attitude that I would feel comfortable recommending to my mom? And for a restoration project, I want a shop full of ideas and creativity, allowing me to make my own decisions, not force me to do what everyone else does.

In short, I wanted someone that wasn’t just going to work on my dream car but someone who would invest themselves in the project, who can claim part ownership of it – meaning that it’s my truck, but it’s also theirs in a way when it’s at the shop.

I ended up at Bubbas East Coast Rods and Customs. My time there was nothing less than stellar. I witnessed one of the most professional set-ups as a whole that I have seen in a long time shop – clean, free of debris and possible hazards. Professional appearance of the technicians, great professional attitude. I even caught them paying attention to the little details by wiping down finger prints and polishing up the bits that nobody will probably ever see. That’s going the extra mile. The staff was patient, understanding, and able to communicate clearly any complex problems and procedures.

As for the cars? Man they were awesome. By far some of the cleanest I’ve ever seen, inside and out.

I know Vondari Racing is all about motorcycle road racing, and that will never change because that’s our passion. But because of my experience at Bubbas and what I’ve personally seen there, I’m posting this up because I really feel that everyone should have a shop or garage that they can trust and that has their best interests in mind.

So either mild or wild, the next time you need help with your car give Bubbas a call, or better yet stop by and check them out.

Cheers,

Constantine

There aren't many around here. White Post in a super high end place but you can't even drop off your car there for less than $20K.

I'd also investigate shops in Pennsylvania - hot rodding and restoration is much stronger hobby up there so you're likely to find something better than here.

There's a place on Lee Rd in Chantilly, across the street from the shopping center at Chantilly Crossing that restores classic cars. I've seen muscle cars of all makes and models parked in their lot. Not sure of the name of the business though.

There appears to be a shop in Fairfax Circle where the Hudson Trail Outfitters is. I always see a dozen or so classic cars in the parking lot waiting to be fixed up.

D&V Autobody on Overland Drive off 606 can do the body work. They handle both high-end cars (Maseratis, etc) as well as classic cars. When I needed some work on my old Barracuda, I got a tour of their facility and the cars there included a '71 Roadrunner (complete with authentic bee-beep horn).

There is a place in Dumfries, Cooper Corvettes

http://www.coopercorvettes.com/

They do great work and are priced reasonably!

I have used them for many years, back when their Shop Foreman was at the old Wilbar and Arnold. (The "Arnold" from W&A is now at Coopers...)

I hope this helps!

Contemporary Automotive does high quality work. (www.contemporaryautomotive.com). "Smitty" is perfectly capable of doing bodywork without any filler. He is formally trained in metalworking and has a lot of experience. He is expensive, but the result will be perfect. I have used this company several years ago.

I have a 69 GTO convertible and Rockville Ring and Bearing rebuilt the engine and they did an excellent job at a fair price.

I stated 1969 GTO. And the '68 and '68 bumpers were identical except for the Pontiac crest on the '68.

There's an awesome shop off Terminal Rd near the tank farm in Lorton. They do a lot of mustang work, but do work on other stuff as well and have some pretty sweet stuff. Don't have the name handy, but I'll see if I can dig it up.

Don't go to Bubba's East Coast Rods and Customs. They put on a good show but they lie, cheat and steal from you. They will charge you for work but never do it but try to make you feel good with a pat on the back and a big smile "brother". They have recently declared personal bankruptcy to try to get away from 2 lawsuits for FRAUD since they had no defense against the charges. BEWARE of these jokers.

We have more problems around here with classic muscle-heads. Dudes that make a block of concrete look smart. Don't care whether it's underground or not, but we need some sort of railroad to carry these dumbshits out of Ole Virginny and back to the god-forsaken native goober-lands they came from.

The shop is in the same center as Hudson Trail Outfitters, you can't miss not seeing the classics in the parking lot the shop has lined up. I go there just to walk around the cars, some real beauties. I always wanted a classic, maybe a caddy with big fins. I was working on a 68 Olds Cutlass 350 convertible, unfortunately my brother in law passed and I had no clue how to work on it. I gave it to my nephew who very kindly restored it...then wrapped it around a tree showing off. Then the nephew worked in Reston in the 90's, some guy GAVE HIM a 67 T-bird with suicide doors. Teal blue with black landau roof, it's been in a shed and only had 250 original miles. Had it towed to our house where it sat for months, I kept offering money for it. After the 10th time of asking, I told the dumb shit to come get it or it was getting towed to the dump. Guess what, he towed it back to Cumberland, MD where it sat out and rotted, rusted out and eventually towed to he dump. We have nothing to do with these hicks since that day.
