Guess the Completion Date - House in Vienna
Posted by: Lurker. ()

I've got great news. Looks like after 5 years the foundation of the house in Vienna is almost complete. Another 5 or six years and I'm guessing there will be some progress on a wall or two.

Seriously? How long is going to take to complete this house? It's been like 7 years and this all that has been done? Did somebody default on the property? How long can a property sit like this?

How about the house on Calamo in north springfield? The half completed pink castle motif built around the 40's era rambler, it has been that that way for at least 25 years!!!

I drive by that project from time to time. I'd rather it take a long time than look like that piece of crap in the back ground. There are too many people in this area with more money than taste.

They do keep the property clean, scrape some dirt every now and move around the containers every two months.

I not complaining. I'm just wonder what the deal is. Is it one guy building the whole house by himself?

I know exactly the house you are talking about. Does anyone live there? Must have inherited it and just work on it once a year or something.

I guess as long as you have the permits, keep it clean and the neighbors don't mind; no harm done.

Permits don't have time limits or have to be built in a certain time frame?

Reminds me of that Muslim place off of Shirley Gate Road. It took around 8 years to build. Supposedly, they'd get enough money together do some things, then kick back and raise money for the next phase. I'll never know how it passed inspection with all of those steel beam exposed to the elements for 2 or 3 years.

According a note in the Vienna Town Council minutes, the county issued a stop work order. Apparently the construction was not as specified in the original (permitted) plans.

Yeah it can't be good for the build quality to start and stop construction constantly.

What is the actual address? If you don't know it, what are the addresses of houses on both sides? You can look up permit status and such in the Fairfax County Online Permit Database.

Permits do have expiration dates. Most likely they let the permits lapse and then got new ones issued.

The house is really the Anti-Christ's temple. Great.

I saw that permit, but if they are rebuilding it, they need more than just a demolition permit.

IMO, you should contact the county and report the property. Also, for any construction project (decks, houses, basements, etc.), all of the permits must be displayed on site in a manner observable by the public. So like, not in a locked box kept in a basement where the stairs have gone out.

I think the land is sinking because the house is not level in the picture compared to the street line.

My bad I took the picture at a slight angle. The street is actually going down a slight hill.

Usually bldg permits expire if there is no work for one year after the job starts......but one can do some minor work to keep the permit open. Probably ran out of money

Sad, but that fugly thing in Vienna has plenty of company in the area. There's also a huge house under construction on Brawner Street over in McLean close to Sherman ES where there's been no progress for over a year. If this house were ever completed, it would probably be over 8000 SF. The whole thing should be torn down.

FYI....... Co. tax records state the address is 501 Windover Ave. The mailing address is 200 Nutley St. It is taxed as Vacant Land? I see a house in the pic.
