Hey, man....what do you all do to get rid of these little hopping fuckers. This seems to be the time of the year they invade my house. I'm sick of these pieces of shit hopping around and startling the living hell out of my family and kids. Shit.

Always a nice touch to end a post with the sentence "Shit."

And by the way, you mentioned family and kids. So, I gather your kids are not part of the family? Is this a Manson thing. Or are you Jerry lewis!?

I hate those things. I got a kit from an online extermination supply company that had these sticky cardboard things to set on the floor in areas where you see them and you put bait on them. After a while you have a whole bunch of them sticking to it and you throw the cardboard away and set up a new one.

I spray my house entrance points with a commercial spray. I don't have crickets anymore but now occasionally I see a centipede-looking thing which I hate 500000000x worse. But they are easy to spray with a regular bug killer.

I get five or ten in the home every Fall.

For some reason, I squash cockroaches, but I am kindhearted enough to scoop the little crickets up and send them outdoors. Maybe I imagine hearing "When You Wish Upon a Star" and can't bear to kill them.

Probably the same motherfucker finding his way back inside each time.

Not kiling the house centipedes will also reduce your cricket population. I'm pretty "live and let live" with spiders and centipedes until they violate the terms of their stay (i.e. crawling on me, hiding in my clothes, or looking at me funny).

I'm more inclined to kill the centipedes, though. Mostly because I can't tell the head from the butt, so I think they're all looking at me funny.

House centipedes look like giant silverfish and are fucking creepy when they run upside down on the ceiling. However, like Mephisto said, they are beneficial. They eat spiders, crickets, silverfish, carpet beetles, clothes moths, roaches, etc.

Go to home depot and get some foundation spray. Spray outside around the entire house like a barrier. Also make sure to seal up any holes. You must have holes some place the crickets are getting in thru. (You're probably also losing heat)

Easy. Cover a piece of cardboard with duct tape, with the sticky side up. (Fold the ends under to make them stick.) I put a little sugar in the center as "bait", but I don't know if that actually makes a difference. Put it wherever you find those things.

I have found excellent results by spraying entire perimeter of the house (including windows and doors) about 2-3 times per year with the below product:

Snapples got it right...duct tape. Skip the insecticides kiddies - it's not good for ya. I put a few feet of duct tape sticky side up in doorways where those nasty little bastards like to travel through. Works like a charm. Very easy to get rid of too. Just pull up the tape and toss it in a garbage bag.

duct tape doesn't work. if you have an actual camel cricket problem then you know that a simple peice of duct tape will not stop your problem.. you need to use raid and spray your whole basement or utility room. if you do not raid the bugs they will never leave and you will forever have a problem. yes it the insecticides are bad to inhaale but that is why you leave the house for a few hours so you do not inhale anything bad.

Simple solutions - Duct Tape on the basement floor - about a foot of it - and for some reason they will all jump on it. Hmm

Only two things you need in life

I just can't stand centipedes. I found one the other day on a hallway wall, and it's the first one I've found in the house since who knows when. I didn't kill it though, I just put it in a cup and let it go in the woods out back.

I do like Cicadas however, and most people are freaked out by them.

We get them in our basement and they like to hang out in the laundry room. I use Hot Shot spider killer on them (you can get it at Home Depot, Wal-Mart). Hot Shot works for about 4 months on any type of bug.

Camel Crickets eat cotton material, so if you have a laundry basket on the floor, you will find holes in your clothes from these things. They also come out at night, so if you open your door at night, they'll jump in because they are attracted to light. I've sprayed Hot Shot all around the outside of our house, and we haven't seen many this year. When we do see them, they are half dead due to the spray.

I hate these things. One minute you see them and the next, they are gone!

Duct tape works very well for catching them once they are inside the house. To keep them out you should find out where they are entering, and seal that entrance. Often they will enter the house via the vent where your dryer releases excess heat, which is why they are usually found in laundry rooms. Seal that so only air escapes, and put a long piece of duct tape upside down either under or right before the door to your laundry room. When they try to leave the laundry room, they get caught on the tape.

Camel Crickets love sand & sand paper, you can make a trap with sand or sand paper and a 5 gal bucket or trash can on its side. Build it and they will come.

Go to home depot and buy boric acid. Put it around the house and inside where they are common. I use this and it does the trick. Also, try using a dehumidifier where they are common. They are attracted to moisture, keep the house as dry as possible and you're good.

I use duct tape so I won't get brain damage from Raid and end up typing the way you do.

Also, "literally takes 20 seconds" doesn't really jibe with the "leave your house for a few hours" part.

You miniDonkydick are a prime example of what breathing insecticides does to the human brain. You've obviously sprayed ALOT of bug spray in your (mom's) house. It is NOT a good high. Have you ever heard of flypaper? Glue traps? They work and so does putting duct tape in doorways or around the outside of doors for Cave Crickets. Duct tape is not magic. They walk on it and are stuck there for eternity.

If you insist on spraying poisons, you should spray it on outside walls. Cave/Camel crickets climb up on outside walls every night.

I was gonna mention sprinkling boric acid around too. It's harmless to humans, but messes up bugs real good. Probably good for Silver Fish too. I wasn't aware you could buy it at Home Depot??? I found some on Ebay one time.

I got mouse glue traps and laid them out. Packing tape works too.Pull a strip , place the ends together, sticky side up and press it on the floor.

I love looking everyday to see how many are going to die a slow death.

They eat fabric. I thought that my washing machine was messing up my clothes, but I'm sure now that it is them. No more leaving piles on the floor waiting to wash.

The new normal is that we have to deal with insects on a daily basis, which is pretty much the old normal, except that some people have forgotten this.

Verminous and pestilential insects are not your friends. They are your competition, or perhaps your food, if you have a strong stomach.

YEs, we found these fuckers living near the foundation of our basement exterior walls because it was wet. What we did was put in a frech drain so that water in the soil would drain away from the house.

FYI raid is natural and made from a flower extract, I am not advocating sniffing it for fun but it isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

I bought this http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/bifen-it-p-226.html and use it with a water mix pump up sprayer around my entire house a few times a year. I use it outside where the ground meets the foundation and inside in the unfinished basement area. It seems to help and is supposed to be rated for food areas.

Does anyone use else have sucess with it? It's supposed to even protect against termites.

This is interesting on their reviews comparing it to the ortho stuff...

"I haven't used Bifen IT yet, but this is the same chemical that is in Ortho "Home Defense", that is effective yet non-toxic to animals and people. I have used the Ortho product a lot, including for dry wood termites. Using Bifen IT, you can mix up the same solution for a little over $1 a gallon compared to $8 a gallon for the Ortho product. Local professional exterminators use the same chemical for general insect control, both in liquid and granule form. Also, I received good and prompt service from DoMyOwnPestControl.com, and I will be ordering more products from them. Their website encouraged me to tackle my termite project rather than paying very big bucks to the termite companies."

I remember hearing that it's a defense mechanism to jump towards their prey to startle them. That's why they are so freaky is that they jump at you.

I had a house where they were an issue. We used some bomb of some kind and they were all still alive, but all their legs fell off. I kind of felt bad for the disgusting things.

Those little fuckers are fast. Have you ever tried squashing one?

My cat loved to chase them for the challenge.

I just found this thread...and can't believe the answer is not here.

This:

http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/intice-fine-granular-bait-p-350.html

Sprinkle some in the unfished areas of your basment along the foundation wall...and outside around entry doors...or anywhere else that you see them. It is fairly non-toxic. It fucks up their digestion and they essentially starve to death.

You will see the population drop off 100 fold...and when you do see a live one, it will harldy be able to move.

You are welcome.

Sincerely,
The Cricket Slayer
(yes, they fear the fuck out of me)

You rock, Donkeyhead, LOLOLOLOLOL! I'm having that problem now in my crawl space. I'll do the Raid or that Scott's stuff. But I'm sprayin'! Thanks for the Raid tips.

Hey, I used the shop vac to get arid of the camel crickets a few years ago. Now, I have none BUT, I have a bunch of other critters who were the meals for the camel crickets. I wish I had a few back. :(

Surprised no one has mentioned this. Run a dehumidifier in the summer through late fall. I had tons of these in the basement last few years but I ran a dehumidifier (2 litre drained daily) in the ~700 sq/ft basement and could count the # I saw one hand the whole time and most of them were already dying.

They are attracted to moisture and most basements have high humidity like caves duh!

I hate those cave crickets. I also don't like to use raid on a large scale bsais. It's a little inconvenient, but I keep a shop vac plugged in and vacuum them right up whenever I see them. I've seen far fewer this year than last. Spraying outside defintely works for centipedes.
