jiffy lube question
Posted by: Cindy in Springfield ()
Date: July 18, 2007 11:15AM

I was told by a car care member at Jiffy lube that my car was out of blinker fluid and it would cost $50 for a life time refill. Does this sound reasonable?
I cant find anything in my owners manual about blinker fluid. Any help would be appreciated.

there's no such thing as blinker fluid
jiffy lube rips people off

half the time they "change your oil" and drive your car right through

jiffy lube is constantly looking for ways to make more money, just like car dealerships. take it somewhere you trust and they will tell you what you NEED and what would be a good idea to have.

The last and final time I went to Jiffy Lube was back in 1990.

That Jiffy Lube tried to make me pay for an oil filter that they
didn't stock. (an older Mercedes) The manager took my car and
I went outside smoking and I could clear see and hear what was going
on inside. I heard one service guy tell they other the following
conversation... I'll just refer to them as Joe and Bill. They didn't
realize the car they were working on was mine, they probalby thought
I was just some guy outside smoking and using the payhone... (yes,
back then cell phones weren't popular yet)

Bill: "hey, we don't have this oil filter, what do I do?"

Joe: "go tell the customer that we don't have it"

Bill: "what if we just put the dirty one back in? he won't know the difference"

Joe: "I guess he won't... so what do I put under oil filter price?"

Bill: "write $15"

Joe: "oh, man, that ain't right..."

(at this point, I thought Joe had decided to be a nice guy... WRONG!)

Joe: "make that $25 because it's a Mercedes, man"

I flicked off my cigarette and walked towards my car. Bill and Joe said
"sir, you can't come in here, it's for customers only"

I replied "that's my god damm car your're working on..."

They started mumbling something and the manager came over. I explained
what I had heard and semi-expected the manager to fire those guys or
something... WRONG AGAIN.... The manager said "your oil filter looked
fine which is why Joe here put it back, after cleaning it..."

I flatly told him that I wasn't going to pay a cent. If he didn't agree,
I was about to call the cops.

Never went back to Jiffy Lube again...

Never go there for any kind of service...They try to get you to buy all kinds of stuff..They once told me that I needed and air filter because it was dirty..Funny thing was I had changed it myself only a week before..But that Was not the straw the broke the Camels back. After having my oil changed, the very next day I was driving and all of a sudden my car started smoking. Thankfully I quickly got my car off the road and realized that they had not tightened my Oil Pan plug and it fell out along with all the oil. Thankfully there was no damage to my car, and it took them like 3 weeks to get my the money that it cost to have my car checked out and new oil put in.

just search youtube for jiffy lube and transmission service / transmission flush. Some TV station out of Norfolk went to ~8-10 or so of them requesting the ~$160 service. I believe 2 of them may have actually done it, but every one charged for it. Never been to jiffy lube, and never will.

I'd look of the video, but youtube is blocked here.

Do your oil changes yourself, then you will always know it is done right. Go get some ramps at auto zone and buy your own oil and filter. Its cheaper too in most cases.

Yet another reason I do my own maintenance work on my cars.

Soon however, I will be getting my 4-post service/storage lift - no more lying on my back!

Is Virginia Tire & Auto trust-worthy?

I'm willing to do most of my own stuff if i can and want to.. but @ my apartment they don't really like you working on your car

Whenever theres some new kid working at Jiffy Lube, they send them over to a parts store for them to get blinker fluid or horn beep to screw with them. Its amazing how someone working at Jiffy could think blinker fluid or whatever actually exists.

My mom got her oil changed at Jiffy, was driving down to Charlottesville and the oil light came on, so she stopped at a Jiffy Lube down there. They found that the oil filter was screwed on crossthreaded, and most of the oil drained out on the way down. The guy at the Jiffy Lube in Charlottesville said if she had driven any more it would have totaled the engine. Later on she found out her friend had her engine totaled the same way.

The problem is they hire highschool kids who dont know shit

I remember someone telling me that a Jiffy Lube accidentally topped off his engine coolant with windshield washer fluid.

Stay Away from Jiffy Lube! Especially the one on Route 50 in Chantilly. They got grease all over my seats. Some of the people driving the cars don't even have a drivers license.

I stopped going to Jiffy Lube a long time ago. I don't know if I was ever ripped off, but they kept pressuring me to have extra shit done to my car. Fuck that nonsense.

I take my car to Merchants. It isn't as good as it was before it was bought out by Tire Kingdom, but it is still a hell of a lot better than Jiffy Lube.

And here you people thought "Jiffy Lube" referred to changing oil in your car instead of getting your ass lubed real fast by a bunch of con artists.

Only reason I still go to Jiffy Lube in Burke is to get head from the homeless woman living in their parking lot while getting my oil changed. Big Mac's usually do the trick, just remember to spray her down cause the smell is pretty bad

I took my car to the Jiffy Lube on Route 50 in Chantilly. Some kid asked if homeboy wanted to "Save some money." My bill was like $160, and he got in a customer's car and had me throw $100 on the passenger seat. He told me not to tell anyone and that I couldn't get a receipt. Shady mother fuckers!

No, I was talking about an employee at the Jiffy Lube in Chantilly...I thought that was implied. Sorry about the confusion.

I would jjust go to a regular mechanic for routine maintenance.

You have to be careful with some things. Like about someone's coolant being topped off, there are different kinds of coolant. There's the old green, there's Toyota pink type coolant, GM Dexcool, and some new super-long-life coolants. If you use the wrong one and mix them, it could screw up your car.

after I came back from my deployment. I bought a classic muscle car. Went to Jiffy lube to get some mobil 1 as it had a brand new crate motor. The guy offered me to clean the car from sludge ect ect. I spent $400+ 3 months later I was changing the oil myself at my body shop. The oil ws dirt black after 2000 miles. How could this be??? I went threw 30qrts of oil before it drained clean. Thanks for taking my money. I went to the on on 50 i think. The one in Chantilly

It is pretty common practice at these places not to change the oil filter and charge you for it anyway. You should always see what kind of filter is in your car before you take it in, or mark it. Odds are if they didn't bother to change your filter, they either didn't change your oil or did a half-assed job at it.

I have two rules when I go to Jiffy Lube.

Don't allow them to do anything more then the basic oil change service. Yes I'll let them change the air filter if it looks bad.

And second always stand someplace where I can watch everything they do or don't do to my car. You will never see me sitting in a corner of the waiting room. I watch them till they drive it out side then I go pay.

Back when I was a lil one. Jiffy Boob use to put plastic caps in place of your oil pan drain. They would replace them so you had to come back to them to get your oil changed. Well I was with my parents on a road trip and all of a sudden the car is pissing oil like a $5 wore. Turns out the plastic cap broke and we were fucked in the middle of bf. They have long ago stopped doing this but they still suck cow balls.

And also...

A couple of years ago they offered to clean my fuel injectors for $80 or something like that. I watched them take my car out back and use an $8 can of fuel injector cleaner that I could have done my self. I was fucking mad.

If I was not a lazy sob I would change the oil my self but fuck that.

EoM
