Machine Gun Range?

Anyone know where you can shoot a machine gun in NOVA? You used to be able to at Blue Ridge Arsenal, but it's not my favorite place. I don't mean rent one, just where you're allowed to. Thanks.

Silver Eagle Group Training Facility in Ashburn. Make sure you have all Class III license and paperwork with you. You can fire anything up to a .50 BMG (650 grain or less). Anything bigger than that and you should be in Afghaniastan killing terrorists anyways.

You can rent their M249 and/or M9 full-auto without any licenses or permits, but an RSO will be hovering over you like a mother fucking nazi hawk (as they should). When I was workin' there we actually had some prick bring in an M60 on a bi-pod and shoot up the wall. Belt-fed ammo there is expensive, but how often do you get to shoot anything full-auto in/around NOVA?

They have M9's full auto? Doesn't that go through the clip incredibly fast!?!?! ;)

(I'm not sure what you meant there, actually. No full-auto weapons with 9's in them come to mind other than the 249 you mentioned).

I was not aware Silver Eagle permitted anyone to shoot there except members.

LoL you're absolutely right. There are 9mm full-auto handguns, but not at SEG. What I meant was M4. My bad. I was one of the first employees hired at SEG when they first opened and if you want any/all info on the place feel free to send me a message. Long of the short is you can shoot there hourly just like the NRA range or BRA in Chantilly.

Ever known anyone to show up and try to fire some thermobaric rounds at a range? lol.

But I assume at some pretty expensive rates, no?

(laugh) Whenever someone is picky about terminology I wonder why they can't contribute something more substantive.

Next thing you'll be saying it's a round not a bullet, a casing not brass, and a semi-automatic not an automatic.

Self-loading firearms is more like it.

I just checked it out, and it's not too bad. $25/lane is a good deal more than NRA's $15, but still. I hear great things about SEG's experience, so I might splurge sometime.

Now...for Machine Guns...who wants to go with me to Knob Creek in October? :)

I'll be there, as I'm a class III holder and avid shooter.

I highly recommend SEG. It's a clean, SOTA facility and a good shooting experience. I've seen some of the tactical training there and consider them better than your average facility. After spending 15 years in S.O. myself and subsequently training under Larry Vickers in NC, I would say that they rank a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10.

It's not too often you can sign up for a "vehicle take down" course unless you are law enforcement or a defense contractor, but you can at SEG.

There...being Knob Creek?

I'm seriously considering going at some point.

Yes, Knob Creek. I also shoot at a property that I own in Rockingham County, VA. which is 8 1/2 hours closer than Knob Creek. I just don't have cars, trucks and gas tanker trucks setup to shoot at. However, I do set up reactive targets and incendiaries. If you know somebody that has an old car, I have a trailer that we could haul it out there with. My belt fed HK21 loves anything you want to put in front of her. The local mountain folks out there don't know what to think about me as it is with all the machine guns and fireworks going off for hours on end so exploding vehicles probably wouldn't be much of a surprise to them.

Can I be your new best friend? :) Don't know of any old clunkers, but I'll keep my eyes open. Tennerite + old car + belt-fed = fun. :)

I've never shot anything full auto, would be a blast.

Lol...we'll start you off with something small in 5.56mm like a LWRC M6 (M4 variant) or a preban Steyr AUG, before we let you loose with a belt fed .308 (7.62x51mm). Homeade Tannerite is fun, but VERY dangerous. When you feel a shockwave at 400 meters, you've used too much ;)

Fixed your post for you!

Tannerite is good shit... and so easy to make that its the perfect reactive target if you have the place to shoot.

Full auto is fun, but it sure wastes a lot of ammo when you are buying it yourself. The CONOPS for todays machine guns (USMC) is suppressing fire. Having said that, there is nothing like linking a few belts together and seeing what you can do! Just remember that at about 1400 rounds, the M240 barrel will start to droop from melting... Also impressive is melting a M2 barrell at 2200 rounds.... Damn the COL was pissed!

Might want to start off with an SMG...start cheap.

Yes, full-auto is damned expensive.

FBO thanks for fixing my post! I didn't want to scare the hell out of everybody. I do enjoy feeling a slight thermal before a shockwave smacks the taste out of my mouth.

And Kardinal, I buy ammo in bulk from ammoman.com UPS Ground loves me, but the driver hates me.

Silver Eagle's web site is showing as closed until further notice for renovations effective 9/7. Anyone hear what's going on there? Says all accounts are on hold, anything new coming to the facility?

Ah. Well, unless they need an enterprise systems engineer, I'm guessing that's not going to happy. Well, unless they want to REALLY overpay for a range officer. :)

You should actually look into working for them part-time. Free range time and reduced cost ammo. Those were the only benefits.

After your ringing endorsement of their management? I dunno...:)

Unfortuantely I don't shoot enough anymore to make it worth it.

part-timers don't have to deal with all of the management politics...best option if you're going to work there for anything.
