New poll out... Gerry Connolly "favorable" impression: 38%. Lower than Obama, higher than Congress overall.

Change is coming. Don't get hit.

If you're still using the "teabagger" namecalling, clearly your perspective is so intellectually bankrupt that all you have left is namecalling.

Grow up and have a mature conversation. We might learn something, and you might too.

Namecalling is all they have left. After Becks's outstanding success
on the Mall, they're left standing in their own poo. I saw on the
news last night where a lot of reporters had written their stories
about Beck/Palin's rally BEFORE the event and were left dumbfounded
when he had a religious theme as opposed to political. HA!:)
The NAACP has started a "watchdog" group to report any racist
overtones in the Tea Party but with Al Sharpton's obviously racist
march they'd best be watching their own ranks. This is going to be fun.

I think that this has no political or moral agenda and that it's simply in our best interest to preserve the peace, unfortunately we can't just wipe them out, so just like sands through the hour glass, so are the days of our lives.

Do you really expect us to sit here, on a beautiful day like this, and read through that list? As a matter of fact, wtf are you doing on a day like this creating lists? Please tell me that you're at work at 6:44 in the morning too, or did you just have to get up out of bed to make that list?

Do you really believe that messages like this influence people to agree with you? that this will influence tea party members to see the error of their ways? or even observers of the conversation that the tea party is wrong? Because to me all this seems to do is make people who already disagree with and hate the tea party feel a little better by putting them down. Cheap shots overall frankly.

That said, the vile half truths and deceptive allusions of Beck and his ilk are no better.

I wish we could have a reasonable conversation about these issues. But we rarely have in history, why should now be any better?

Why is this thread called "Centreville" Teabaggers? Is there some Tea Party event going on in Centreville that I didn't hear about??

It's too difficult to have a reasonable conversation, when people toss labels around like tomatoes at a food fight.

The early Tea Partiers were floor traders in New York and Chicago. They had no problem when TARP was passed to bail out the big banks and WS, essentially their employers and counterparties. It wasn't until after Obama was elected and the TARP started being used to bail out the auto companies, homeowners, and other sectors that the floor traders started to voice their displeasure. They had no problems having the government foot the bill for the biggest WS bonuses ever in 2009, even bigger than 2007 before the subprime junk meltdown.

Again, is this useful or helpful? Does this suddenly influence Tea Party people to abandon their princples? The Tea Party movement is much more than what you describe now, so its origins aren't really all that relevant. Even if what you say is true, which would require a lot of evidence you didn't give.

Many movements that do good things start out from weird or objectionable beginnings. Shall I start in on the racist eugenicist beliefs of the founder of Planned Parenthood?

The Tea Party was created because diehard Republicans couldn't stand their own party. They worship Sarah Palin and Glen Beck. Although many Republicans now believe the Tea Party will be a threat in November, I can't see any movement being successful with Sarah Palin and Glen Back at the helm.

Pretty much everyone, including Tea Partiers and Democrats, don't consider defense spending to be "socialist," considering that it's one of the few major line items in the Federal budget that is actually authorized directly by the Constitution. Most of the items in OP's post are defense spending. It's tough to convince anyone on either side of the aisle that defense spending should be cut.

No one is saying that keeping jobs here is anti-capitalist. It just depends on how it's done. No one is saying unemployment benefits are socialist. They just have to be paid for. And single-payer health care IS socialist under any definition, regardless of which side of the aisle you're on.

This post belongs in an argument on my blog, anyway. Not here.

Defense spending is not socialist in the usual sense, but it has been out of control since WWII, with pigs lining up at the trough. The big defense contractors licked their chops when those jets went into those buildings.

"Who needs a Soviet threat? We can milk this one for decades to come!"

By far the biggest waste of federal money is not welfare or environmental protection or housing or any of that socialist horseshit, it's "defense" spending. And most of that isn't military spending per se; it's on law enforcement and spying, foreign and domestic, legal and illegal.

Republicans love it because republicans love to kill people they don't know and will never meet. War appeals to their nationalist sensibilities because it provides a patriotic cause to rally around. War also gives them the excuse to erect a massive police state.

Democrats love it because they love to kill people they don't know and will never meet. War appeals to their progressive democracy-spreading sensibilities, because it looks humnistic when you bomb people in Kosovo after calling them ethnic cleansers. War also gives them the excuse to erect a larger government and amass more power to themselves.

The idea that Obama and his supporters were ever anti-war was always bullshit, but it's good slogans for republicans. And the idea that Bush and conservatives ever believed in small government and free markets was also total bullshit. Remember Bush started the bailing out.
