You would probably have been screwed either way. ABC has gotten too smart for that dodge-If you charge for cups or you charge for admission or you have a mandatory donation they are probably going to treat it all as sales of alcoholic beverages. If you are charging people for drinks then you need to get an ABC license. They do them for one day events and I believe they cost about $50. Info can be found on the ABC license at
