Why so many Maryland vehicles in Northern Va

I can't help but notice all the Maryland licens plates as I commute to work. Most of the people are traveling from locations within the commonwealth. It dosn't appear that they are headded for a meaningful job, as they are dressed in very casual attire, like oversized athletic ware.

little gym before they suit up for work? I got a nice job but I still do my best to dress like a scrub...

There is silicon valley of the east over here.. not to mention the countless military bases..

im sure theres alot of VA plates in MD as well..

but I mean think about it.. whats the difference between driving from 1.5 hours south in va, and driving from 1.5 north in MD?

NoVA will soon consume half the east coast.. mark my words..

I think a lot of it is tax evasion, but that's just me.

Maybe not but those MD drivers sure do leave a lot of "shit" when they drive into NoVA!

Accidents are always on their side of the beltway and traffic congestion is always on their side of the beltway. When I get behind one of them on a side road (Hunter Mill for example) they just plain make me crazy. If they don't know where they are they should stick to the main roads....

I have no patience for MD drivers...

You who think you have the right to pass judgment should think twice.

I'm sure that we have all done something in our past that we will never do again, regret having done, or "learned the lesson" and choose never to bring it up or discuss it.

Give these Marylanders a break and more importantly, give the people who know them some room to deal the way they choose. Whether it's posting on this forum or screaming at the top of their lungs...stop passing judgment on them and just "Let It Be"!

pgens - good try but it failed!

Opinon and judgement are 2 different things...sorry!

The folks in the other thread were actually JUDGING the ladies who died and the people who cared about them rather than offering opinions.

judgment: the cognitive process of reaching a decision or drawing conclusions

opinion: a personal belief or judgment that is not founded on proof or certainty

I swear that Maryland drivers have no idea what turn signals and mirrors are. I would be happy to have a ban to keep them out of VA and I would happily return the favor and never drive to/through Maryland. LOL.

The odd thing is though, in Maryland, I've noticed many of the worst offenders on the road are cars w/VA plates. Weird.

Ironically speaking, I was in Washington, D.C. just last week and I found the drivers surprisingly polite. No one honked at me when I was a bit slow gathering my whereabouts and they let me pull out of my parking spot .

ok...... you got me..... I just don't get how "Opinion and judgement are 2 different things..." when you use "judgment" within the definition of opinion!

now the ironic part........

Hey Robert, what brought you to Washington, D.C. last week? Important Government business? Wanted to visit the monuments? Have a Happy Meal?

JUDGEMENT is a cognative process used to deduce a conclusion whereas OPINION is based soley on a personal belief.

In other words, when you are judging something you are taking the facts (presented or percieved), analyzing them, and after some deductive reasoning, forming a statement based on how you interpreted the factual information.

When you are offering your opinon, you are simply speaking from the gut with an emphasis on passed experience. A reference to factual information is not necessary for you to offer an opinion, as a true cognative process is not implemented.

I think thats because most or all of us area drivers have dealt with FFX county..

What is it that they have going on? I heard about it at driver improvement clinic :) - its some sort of initiative they have going on to catch all offenders and whatnot.. it was a clip from a news show about us...

i still remember the one black dude that got pulled over and filmed.. "Fairfax county..?.. I f**kin hate fairfax county"

that shit had the whole room crackin up..

I've heard of people in VA registering their vehicles in Md because there's no personal property tax on vehicles but I may be mistaken. Maybe there are no registration fees or something.

I believe MD has higher annual registration fees, so probably it's just people being lazy.

I'm one of those people who live in VA and work in MD (just barely since I my job is in the Cabin John area - bunch of wierdos live here!)

I have two theories about MD drivers in VA:
1) Many of them are coming over the WW Bridge to work along the Tysons/Dulles corridor
2) Since I see many MD drivers heading BACK over the American Legion bridge into MD, either they're shift workers or VA residents trying to avoid safety inspections (this is especially evident on some of the shitboxes that I see routinely).

Eitherway, not only do MD drivers have turn signal impairment, but it seems 9 out of 10 left lane cloggers are clueless MD drivers. Granted, VA drivers have turn signal and left lane issues too but I think the MDMVA teaches MD drivers to not use turn signals and ignore the "slower traffic keep right" laws.

I'll pass judgment. I see this shit everywhere I go. A beat-up white with rust stains Oldsmobile with two burnt-out taillights is straddling two lanes every time I get on the highway. And the license plate does not say VA or DC.

When was the last time you strolled through MD? It's a dump. Potholes the size of craters and crime rampant. Those buggers like the NOVA wages but they don't like the living costs. I wouldn't cry if someone took out the 495 bridge and cut us off from those losers.

I've often wondered the same thing about all the MD cars, and I do agree they more often than not drive like crap. But, I will say this, I have a sister-in-law up in Silver Spring. I am seriously thinking of using her address to get my license and tags (MD, of course) as I completely disagree with these new laws having to do with the civil fines applicable only to VA residents. I don't even need to mention it would also have to do with ducking the personal property tax. Want another reason?? It junks up the the windshield and devalues the look of one's car having these damn stickers in the middle of them.

If you get hit by a car from DC or MD forget it they never have insurance, I don't care what Henrys Insurance says. Kiss my bumper Virginia!

p.s. the real reason there are so many cars over here is they are hiding out from the man, esp the man who says they owe thousands for all those babies and babies mommas. Don't need no baby momma drama. Just my crib and my threads and my 40 ounce.

Check out Franklins if you're in Hyattsville. They brew their own beer and have good food, it's a cool place. I wouldn't walk around the neighborhood at night alone, but the restaurant is great.

Sheesh, don't judge the whole State of Maryland by Montgomery and PG!

I live part of the year here in St. Michaels and it's paradise. If you're a boater, the Chesapeake Bay country is hard to beat. I've been cruising the Bay for over 30 years now and haven't tired of it yet!

Crabs and beer, anyone?

It's a giant conspiracy! They are cheating on their taxes, and shoveling the millions they save in taxes off to Swiss bank accounts!

Thank god the swiss have finally caved in to US pressure to hand over the names of all the little people banking with them. (but, not, of course, the Madoffs and other big rollers.)

Hey duchebag, I'm a native of nova and have never received a moving violation, I drive 20,000 miles a year and I know the worst drivers are from Maryland. A very large percentage of the violators are black. If you don;t believe me just try merging from the 8th steet exit on to 395 south in Washington DC. The cars comming from Maryland are speeding 75mph in a 40mph zone. They drive like assholes then enter Virginia and try to drive sainly but cant. Also have you ever noticed most the violaters on Virginia HOV lanes are blacks from Maryland.

I have been forced to drive rental cars alot lately and they have all had Maryland tags. All were rented in Fairfax County. I get dirty looks whenever I merge or move in traffic that I never get in my Virginia tagged car. We are all so sick of idiotic drivers and they normally have MD tags, maybe some of the blame should be on tourist and business travelers in rental cars. Not trying to say we should stop hating people from Maryland, just that we should add to the hate list.

Well, nothing will change because cross jurisdiction driving is commonplace in the Wash. metro area. Just like the Tri-state area (NY,NJ & CT) and Philly with PA, DE & NJ you're going to see cars from the states that are nearby.

Seems like all the cars I rent are registered in MD; no idea why. Don't know how large the rental fleet is, but can imagine that it could make an impact with selective attention.

I have noticed lately that there are a god damned lot of MD plates around here, and most of them seem to be VA residents.

MD doesn't look too closely at car registrations, and the process is not nearly as bad as Va DMV, so a lot of illegal aliens and tax dodgers avoid paying into the commonwealth and dealing with proof of safety and emissions by registering in MD.

As far as I know, the only recourse that VA can take is to impound MD tagged vehicles if they remain parked too long on public VA roads...other than that, it is a mickey mouse crime, and a pain to prove.
