I got a ticket today for 81/65 MPH on the toll road. I asked if the laser was stationary and he said "yes and it's vehicle specific, unlike radar". I really think he was driving behind me because I don't think I passed him. I remember a different looking car way back there but it was too far away to tell. The ticket says Laser 616'. Is that possible when driving behind me? Isn't that too far even if he was on the side of the road?

The officer obtained your speed at 616 feet from his location. This is about .11 of a mile. LASER can only be used in the stationary mode. The technology has not caught up to have LASER be used in the moving mode. Why are you going 81 mph anyway?

Two ways to get out of a ticket:

1) Remind the cop you are paying his salary and he is working FOR YOU!

2) Tell the cop you know the law better than him and there's no way he can give you the ticket.

Both of these should be done in a loud forceful voice. Sometimes yelling these works best.

3) Post your issue and legal theories on FairfaxUnderground.com, where you will get ironclad advice on the law and how to PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS.

4) Never pull over right away, they hate that. Go a couple of miles with the cop behind you so he can observe your driving style. (The cop may hit his siren a couple of times, that's fine, he's just letting you know he's still observing and to continue on.)

Don't be scared by 81mph people.. I've driven in many countries and it's extremely average. But OOHHH, yeahh, Americans don't pay attention to me coming up behind when you're talking and texting on down the road. Try that in Germany. It's only 16 over on a road I just paid $5 for and barely any traffic. So no, the cop did not enforce reckless. I'm going to court anyway, being fascinated by picking me off at over 2 football fields.

I just hope to get home in 75 minutes and keep my job here in commuterville.

It is easy to live in Fairfax County and have a commute that long to DC if you work there. When one changes jobs in the area the commute may change. If renting it may be easier to move, but if buying that is a lot of hassle to go through every few years just to shave ten or fifteen minutes off the daily commute when you change jobs.

What part fascinates you? It's a laser with a scope and crosshairs. The further away the police officer is from you, the easier it is to line you up in a pair of crosshairs.

You said you were 616 feet away, a number that is written on the ticket. Double that to 1232 and we get the round-trip distance.
* It's worth noting that 616 feet may already be the round-trip distance in which case you were only 308 feet away.

The speed of light is 186282 miles per second (299,792,458 meters per second for you metric folks).

There are 5280 feet per mile, making the speed of light 983,568,960 feet per second.

This means it took a whopping 0.00000125258121200 seconds for the laser to reach your car and bounce back to the gun. One shot would only give the police officer the range to your car, so the gun will automatically fire a number of shots to calculate your rate of speed. All of this will happen in less than a second.

Your only hope at arguing your way out of the ticket is if the device has an accuracy/range limitation and you were out of range. I highly doubt that to be the case. My guess is that if you try to get the speed of something too distant, the gun will just throw up an "out of range" error message.

Go ahead and argue it in court if you want, but don't be surprised when the judge finds you guilty and you end up paying the ticket fine and court costs. If the judge is in a bad mood he/she may also slap the reckless driving charge on you that the police officer chose to ignore.

The airport authority police are over stepping their boundry, I have seen them pull people over/run radar @ 28 & 50.

They are allowed to pull you over on Rt. 28 or any road intersecting with the toll road if the crime you committed was *on* their road.

I'm up and down the toll road and Rt. 28 every day and I have never seen them sitting with a radar gun off of the toll road.

Yesterday I saw a cop taking Lidar in Loudoun County where I stopped to eat lunch. I felt compelled to ask him a few questions.

He was very excited to show me the lidar and explain the difference between lidar and radar.

I asked if there was any defense in court and he said no, as long as the officer is stationary. Then he pointed down the street at a group of cars. He said the third car was doing 49 mph and was 1549 feet away. "See, I already got his speed and he wont even see me for 15-20 seconds".

Bottom line, there is nothing you can do about it.

Say to them one or more of the following

Go out and arrest some real criminals.

Thats why you dont do a full jam you are alerted as soon as your hit. Once your hit with laser you slow the fuck down and turn the jammers off, i have had my jammers for 2 years now and have never gotten pulled over. A full jam is keeping the jammers on and completely jamming the gun, that will piss most cops off but im guessing 90% of cops are still too dumb to know they are being jammed. Also jammers are hidden so its pretty hard to find them. Sometimes HID headlights will jam there guns they arent perfect, it can take the guns a couple seconds to get the speed even if they arent being jammed. They key is to slow the fuck down within 3-5 seconds and kill the jammer, they all come with a kill switch. I see a lot of prolaser 3 and pro lites used in this area never had a problem with them.

This is a video of someone with a jammer in on fairfax parkway, his reaction time was a litte slow in my opinion.
