Safe Haven Babies is a network of volunteers, hospitals and fire departments organized toward saving infants from the dangers of abandonment and an almost certain death.
Newborn babies don't have to be deserted in locations where they're susceptible to the elements and could possibly end up dead. Still, year after year, they are.
We are part of the National Safe Haven Alliance (NSHA). NSHA supports states' efforts to prevent infanticide and newborn abandonment through safe-haven relinquishments. NSHA is dedicated to reaching these women and encouraging them to make the right choice for themselves and their babies, whether it is a safe-haven relinquishment, adoption, or parenting.
If a mother has decided to surrender her child a volunteer will ensure the mother is informed and aware of the Safe Haven Laws in her area. The volunteer will accompany the mother to the nearest hospital or fire station where she can legally and safely surrender her child. Our objective and role is education & support. Once the baby is surrendered, our volunteer will help the mother if she requests or needs assistance with medical care, obtaining birth control, or emotional support.
Safe Haven has several different chapters serving throughout the US. Some areas have multiple chapters. We are all independently run by teams of dedicated volunteers. If you’d like to help by becoming a volunteer or know someone who might need our help please reach out:
