I think steering students into math, science, engineering is where this has to go. I always hear of tech companies having to import H1B visa holders from abroad to fill jobs. Meanwhile, some shit sack with a degree in humanities (and a job at Starbucks) wants forgiveness for his/her/they loan.

The amount needed to pay off each college loan will bankrupt the USA. Why should some get windfalls while the masses don't , lots of us could use 30 40 grand.

If you think about it, 3/4 of the people currently taking on student debt have already paid them off and them some if you account for interest. I know several people who took out $70k in loans, paid $65k in 5 years and still owe about $50k. These people should have the rest of the loans "forgiven". I on the other hadn't took out about $27K and 5 years later, owe about 10 after paying off $17k. I shouldn't have my loans forgiven. All I would want is to have interest suspended cause that's what really fucks people.

You can't "steer" people into studying things they have zero interest or aptitude for. This fantasy some people have on the right of everyone going to study something in STEM is preposterous. It takes a specific type of person to not just competent at a STEM field, but excel.
