AAA trash -need advice
Posted by: fairfaxresident ()

I cancelled my trash service May 27th- they still have not picked up my trash can and have not issued a credit for the month of June, despite repeated phone calls. Please help, I feel as though they are never going to give us a credit and we are stuck with their trash can, any advice?

Let them keep the money for june and take the can back to their office yourself then ask them nicely to close your account. Trash service is a basic need industry and you must be very respectfull and polite to the people who work in it. If you give these folks any attitude at all they will go out of their way to make things worse for you. Be thankfull that you live in a country where trash removal is available at an affordable price. Stop being so selfish.

Trash removal is a business. They are no more or less deserving of respect than your local McDonalds or multi-generational family run business.

If they try to rip people off and going there in person doesn't work, the simple solution is to draft a nice "I'm going to take your dumb ass to small claims court if you don't stop fucking with me" letter. They'll come around quickly after that.

I don't feel I am being selfish- we are almost to a month since I canceled. They come by my neighborhood every day, they have gotten all of our messages, we have talked to real people, there is no reason our can should not have been picked up. It is not as though I am expecting a special trip. Sorry, but the expectation of ethical business practices does not make one selfish. As it is, it seems like most of the neighborhood is canceling this service, so clearly they have issues to work out. Expecting someone to hold their end of a deal is not selfish.

AAA is a subsidiary of Republic Services, a huge company based in Boca Raton FLA.

I would NEVER trust a company based in Boca.
That entire city is the closest thing to MOB RULE that you can get outside of Italy.

When they do pick up their trash can they will charge you about 50 dollars for a pickup and refurbishment fee. It's their way of sticking it to you for cancelling their service. They snuck an announcement about the fee into monthly statements, so they covered themselves legally.

Realist...What a douche you are! I and three other neighbors are having the same issue with AAA. We have called numerous times and they plain don't give a crap. I told them if they don't pickup next Monday I will consider their trash can mine and I won't be paying their refurbishing fee.

Their drivers suck too. I've been almost hit by them at least twice while jogging because the dumptruck driver is talking on his cellphone not paying attention.

Come on HATER, Get a clue. You will be dependant on trash removal services the rest of your life. The world will continue to exist despite selfish little opinions like yours. Please take time to think about all the good things you have.

Realist,

You are obviously a tool and tard! Here's your clue... start putting in your resume over at American Trash removal as AAA has slit there own throat. Everyone in my neighborhood dumped AAA.

Here's some help with your resume...

Objective: To ride the side of my trash truck and not hit my head on anymore mailboxes.

Trash Management Engineer - 1960 ~ Present
- Pick up trash and put it in the truck
- Sift through occasionally for left over food to eat

Current Goals: To pick up 4 bags at once and throw them in the truck from 10' feet away.

Refernces: Call FCP Work Release Program. I only get one call a day so please don't hang up!

AAA began sending us nasty letters when we attempted to switch trash services. We were on auto pay, but the person at the local office was still doing the accounts by hand. At some point they planned to switch to a new automated, online system. We never received a letter stating we needed to sign up in the new system. We managed to get them to accept the fact that we were switching and that we would only pay for what was still owed on the account.

They still sent paperwork saying we owed them $72 to a collection agency, even though they cleared the account and no collection agency has made contact with us.

Never had a problem with their drivers. They were good guys. Just their terrible office management, and their ever-increasing rates.

These fuckers are playing the litte invoice game like Comcast does with me.
The invoice is dated for the first but not actually sent out until around the 12th-13th. It is due within 30 days or late. If I get an invoice that late I always pay it on the 1rst. So they're tacking on an extra $1.00 each month now, not worth the effort to call for it, will just have to break my cyle and pay the assholes early now.
Comcast was hitting me for $7-8/month, and their bills state 45 days before a fee, I must have called them 10-12 times having them reverse the fees and they tried to blame it on a new system half the time.
Would love to know which agency to report this BS to.

Wait till they stick you with the pick-up and refurbishment fee which is about $75. They'll send you a final bill. Call your district supervisor to complain. They're the ones who wrote it into the County Code to allow AAA to charge a cancellation fee to the consumer. It's quite bullshitty isn't it.

I wouldn't recommend AAA to my worst enemy.

Yes, they did pick my trash more or less on schedule. But there are much better options. They are over priced, charge different people different amounts (next door neighbors, even) for the same service, continuously raise their rates, and I could go on....

But the real insult comes when you terminate service. They offer to meet the price of the competition (but didn't mind being over priced until then) and say that you'll be sorry if you drop them. Then they demand a reconditioning fee for the collection containers that they have ruined by rough handling. All legal, apparently. They say they'll pick up their containers on, say, Tuesday. Trouble is they don't say which Tuesday. It took 4 weeks before they came for their containers.

Find an alternative . . . We switched to American for HALF the price and get exactly the same service. I mean . . . as long as the trash is picked up, how much better can one service be than another?

we switched to American it must have been two years ago and it was $69 for the quarter - now I see it's up to $81. That's for one of their big plastic bins twice a week plus yard refuse one day a week. Is that still less than AAA is charging?

Oh get off it you pompous butt. They are not the only trach collection service in the County. In fact there are several, so there is plenty competition. There is no reasson not to expect good cunstomer service. Further, you can get them to lower you bill just by citing neighbors who have a better deal.

$81 dollars? I have an account with American Trash Services and I recently was billed for $69 per quarter for the trash bin (twice a week) and a recycle bin (once a week) plus if there's any yard waste to put out (they have info for that). AAA on the other hand charged me at least $132+ per quarter for the same type of service and I got fed up. Switched over and now I am quite pleased with American Trash services.

So I wonder why you're paying $69, and my bill just went to $81 for the exact same service.?

Maybe you started with them more recently, and the teaser rate of $69 is still in effect. Still I'd like to hear from someone if this rate ($81) is better than AAAA would charge for the same service before I start complaining.

The teaser rates last from 1 to 2 years. Like Cox and Fios, you have to stay on top of them because they're rates creep steadily up. If a neighbor has a lower rate they will usually match it.
