Good Italian places in the area?
Posted by: NY GAL ()
Date: July 17, 2005 10:14AM

The thread on Pomodoro Pizza reminded me that I really need to find a good Italian place in the area. Can anyone make suggestions? I know about Ciro's in Centreville and San Vito in Herndon. But they are to far away from me. Anyone know a place closer to Vienna?

Thanks!

Tony's in Fair Lakes, near Wally World. I think they're related to Ciro's. Same signs and food.

I wish I can remember the name, but there is an excellent itallian restaurant in Fairfax City at Main St and University Dr. Begins with a D. serves Northern Italian cuisine and is small. No large crowds like Da Dominico in Tysons. Highly recommended for night out with a date. Bring some cash or credit though, expensive.

i'm way to far out of range for delivery, but everything i've gotten at the store has been good...no problems with hair and the like, but it's all been good...

Are we looking for GOOD italian, or good and cheap places with an italian push? Everything I have heard so far is just good stuff, but not great. Basically carabas would be equal or better than most of them in the list for "true" italian food...

Oblisk downtown is great. Laboritorio in Galileo is also great.
There is a place, cant remember the name, in herndon/chantilly in the same shopping center as the giant, sonoco, and gamestop on FCP. Very good but nowhere near the above two places (think 20pp vs 60pp).

Zeffirelli's in herndon is also quite good. 25-30pp
http://www.zeffirelliristorante.com/about.htm

Maestro if you are looking for AMAZING. Located in the ritz. (150pp) Call a week or so in advance for reservations.

Lucianos in Tysons 1. The pizza is good, but the food is better.

The italian store on lee hwy in arlington has good pizza and some italian "groceries."

There is another italian deli/grocery store in leesburg.

I would not recommend tutu bene in fairfax.

Thats all that comes off the top of my head, but I am sure there are more places.

Bellisimo, that was it. very, very good food. Expensive, but very good. You can park behind TT Reynolds if you need to.

you were right about san vito, but not the one in herndon, think we are talking about two different places. Haven't been to BA yet. Zeffirelli's is good food with two locations, one in old town herndon and one in leesburg.

They exclaim about their veal, but I don't believe in its manufacturing process. Know lots of people who like it.

there's an Italian joint in the shopping center in burke were the Walmart is located. Been there several times and thought was quite satisfactory. The bread is to die for. My memory sucks can't remember the name.

Been to tony's N.y. pizza in fair lakes a number of times. real Eyetalian owns the joint but always find the pizza too doughy and salty(?) and the entrees watery

Argia's is in Falls Church, a couple of doors down from the State Theatre. Ususally pretty good, rarely fantastic, unless you are comparing it to some of the places mentioned in the thread (Olive Garden, Joe's). On the expensive side.

Pomodoro in Fairfax Corner, over near Fair Lakes is good, inexpensive food. They have a Dulles location as well.

Ozzie's at Fairfax Corner is terrible. I had the beef short rib and the wife had the fresh fish of the day. Both dishes were sloppy and over-seasoned. Very disappointing.

Can you not use the Google? Perhaps try gayot.com or tripadvisor.com. There are many sources to obtain much more objective restaurant reviews then this board.

The dishes were sloppy? What about appearance of the food and the wait staff?

Stupid troll, stop pretending like you don't know the various meanings of the word "dish":

Definition of DISH
1a : a more or less concave vessel from which food is served b : the contents of a dish

To get back to the original question -- Bonarati in Vienna serves excellent, authentic Italian cuisine. Delicious, quiet, kind of expensive but a nice special occasion restaurant.

I was going to mention Bonarati when I saw this thread bumped. Been a while since I've been there, doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's really nice for special occasions.

And, agreed on Zeffirelli's in Herndon. Nicer exterior than Bonarati, but Bonarati's fancier on the inside.

Either are pretty special. I'm less sold on Da Domenico's.

Piero's Corner (was San Vito) in Franklin Farm is very good, a step down from the above, but kid-able & better/more imagination than the chains.
