A Huge HOLE in Merrifield

Just wondering what's going in the huge hole in Merrifield which is approximately between the Dunn Loring Metro Station and where the old 7-11 use to be across from Merrifield Garden Center. I hope it is a Target. I've been praying for a Target in Merrifield or Vienna for years.

I heard that a Target would be coming to Merrifield in a few years. I think it is supposed to be where the Multiplex is.

This is great news for people living in Tysons. There aren't any discount retail stores around there. It will be nice to have something in Merrifield. Now the next time I need something minor I won't be forced to buy something expensive at the mall or won't have to drive to Reston or Fair Lakes.

I really hope this is true.

I would love a Target, but the Target website shows that there is already a store just inside the Beltway off Rt. 50 at 2980 Fairview Drive in Falls Church. Frankly, I do not recall a store in that area, but, if there is one there, it is too close to justify another one so close by in Merrifield.

If a store is coming to Merrifield, I doubt is is going across from Merrifield Garden Center. That site appears to be small for a Target and the parking it requires. Moreover, being so close to the Metro station, that property is more suitable for offices and condominiums. If Target is coming to Merrifield, I would look for it on the multiplex site.

It's going to be the new school that's replacing Clifton Elementary. Because there's no asbestos there.

No, no, no.... It's the new FCPS bus depot. Close to Gatehouse Mahal, and able to store more than 50 buses. The 30-foot footings are part of the new security system.

Theres one at 7 corners, that is the closest Target. Target can build quite close to eachother if the customer base is there (it probably is)

FYI, I drove by 2980 Fairview Drive, which the Target website shows as a store location. Ain't no store there, just office buildings. Must be Target offices at that location.

I am hearing a Target and a smaller theater is going on the Multiplex site. The Multiplex is being torn down at this time. Hope that is true.

There's a Target at Seven Corners.
There's a Target at the Springfield Mall.

There is going to be a Target in the new "Mosaic District" where the multiplex used to be.

They are also building a 'art-house' style movie theater, an Matchbox (like the one in Chinatown), a MOM Grocery Store, a ton of retail shops, and another 10,000 inhabitant worth of apartments.

The 'hole' you speak of is on Gallows a block up from Lee, towards Tyson's. I am unsure, but there is a 'residential' division of a construction company sign up on the fencing. I am guessing another apartment building.

You need to attend Supervisor Lynda Smith's civic meetings. (Providence District) That is when she likes to tout all the high-end retail that is interested in Merrifield. The downside, contact the developers or look at their websites and you quickly realize that her dreams are exactly that - DREAMS.

The mid to high end national chains have done their demographic research on Merrifield and unless the demographics change to fit their desired customer profile they aren't coming! Period.

Is it racist? Economic descrimination? Possibly but in this economy companies want a sure thing. A community with a growing foreign-born Asian / Latino community in their eyes already has their needs met by the Unique Thrift Store and the Great Wall grocery store.

Ask Linda about all the trees the developers were supposed to plant near the Dunn Loring metro. . . still waiting for that greenscaping. . .

Exactly what I have been saying for years now!!! They DESTROY Muddifield and then tip toe away. Fuckers. Economy MY ASS. How much lower must we go before the brain dead Demmie dips of NVa take theirs heads out of their asses and breath something other than shit.

Good luck with the tree development. More lies. What a surprise.

It's worse. I think about 50% of the businesses in Muddifield have been trashed. We're all waiting for the hippy dream of a revitalized "Merrifield". It didn't need to be touched. It was fine as it was. The ONLY thing I would have fixed was the intersection of Gallows and Lee...which they still haven't. And even though Obama has given locals money falling out of their asses for road work, the intersection is still being ignored.

As far as I'm concerned, "Merrifield" is DEAD. It's resurrection is a complete lie. The plan to revitalize it is a failure. And politicians....ALL OF THEM..."serving" this area need to be voted the hell out.

Dude, the Mosaic website is a joke. Most of the stuff on there has not materialized (and probably never will). Plus, there is not one shred of anything telling us what is going in the big HOLE across and a little down the street from Merrifield Garden Center. I too have heard it will be a big mosque. If anything else in Muddifield, we might get another bank, mattress store, and Korean grocer. I wish I could move....the place is a real dump.

And before all the Connolly lovers, etc. start down the road of "look at all the exciting work their doing at the site of the old Merrifield Muliplex!" I've heard that song and dance before. Remember Taco Bell? Remember KFC? Yeah....exciting they tore all that shit down and left it as a fricking dump. I'm confident some joe bob will come on here and remind me how shitty the water is in Muddifield and how they are tearing up the roads for new clean water. Whoopy fucking doo. That's probably what their doing on the old Merrifield Multiplex site. Urban development my ass. Urban destruction is more like it.

Actually it's a Moslem training center, it is the example of what future jihadists can accomplish if they can carry enough explosives and after they are on their way to heaven to meet all the 72 or 13 or whatever number it is virgins that they so desparately need. I'm thinking that it takes all those virgins to give them a batah.

If Muddifield is going to hell, they might as well put in a gay bar next to the mosque. I heard about a movement to do that at the 911 site in NYC. Maybe the "oh, so PC and beautifully tolerant" Demmies of Muddifield will decide to put in a NAMBLA headquarters where the Taco Bell use to be. Might as well. As soon as the economy starts to rev, i'm selling the house and moving the hell away from Muddifield.

Torn down so they could reconfigure the intersection and make it larger. I look forward to that- that has to be one of the worst intersections around.

Uh, no......Merrifield would have remained, and they would have restructured Merrifield bit by bit and not whole hog destruction just to leave it to rot. THat's how Demmies do things. They use their emotions and shut off the rest of their brains.

Seriously, my real beef is with Connolly. I can remember going to one of his idiotic meetings at Thoreau Middle School probably 8 year ago when he was hustling us to turn the Dunn Loring Metro parking into a baseball stadium. He was an ass then, and he's a bigger ass now. I'm so glad the baseball stadium didn't get built....at least we had a few good years of Merrifield with some building (Dad's Burgers, Z-Pizza, etc.) until the greedy munchkin got the green light on trashing the rest of Merrifield.

I hate having to drive to Reston or Fair Lakes every time I need to shop at a big discount retailer. And it sucks having to buy normal shit, like a pizza cutter or colander, at Crate & Barrel or Williams-Sonoma. I like the idea of having a Target sorta close to Tysons. Screw Reston & Fair Lakes.

Yeh, man....there aint nothing like Target round Merrifield unless you can get it at the CVS. Feels like I live in the middel of Iowa. Here Merrifield is bursting at the seems with people liven there and traffic sucks. They got a Korean market, a good will place, kerate studio, two gyms, and thats about it. We have needed a Target or Kmart or walmart for a decade now.
