Police identify victim of beating
Fairfax County police on Saturday identified the victim of an apparent beating death as Christian Perez, 16, of the 8500 block of Silverdale Road in the Lorton area.
Perez was found dead about 4 p.m. Friday of an apparent head wound in Woodlawn Park in the Fort Belvoir-Mount Vernon area of southern Fairfax County, police said. A resident of the area said a witness who saw Perez's body said "it was pretty beaten up."
A police report said investigators "have reason to believe the case to be gang related," but offered no other details. Residents near the scene between Huntley Meadows Park and Route 1 gave conflicting accounts of events that led to the death. Some said a large group had been fighting; others said two people fought as a large group watched and others said a large group came to the scene after learning that the attack was in progress.

I taught at the elementary school that Christian attended. He was not in my class; however, I had two of his siblings. Christian was a very sweet boy and a safety patrol at the school. His sisters were darling and his parents were very nice people. I feel like there needs to be something positive on this website due to all the negative comments. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. I cannot imagine how hard it would be to lose a son or a big brother.
