Dangerous Fairfax

Be careful where you walk around at night, it seems the robbers and thugs have been running wild in a few places....

http://www.nbc4.com/news/11320285/detail.html?dl=headlineclick

Now most of us already know that some of these places are sketchy and unpleasant after dark... but I figured I'd post the article and then get a kick out of some of the goofy remarks it's bound to generate.

you know what this means, we need to form a farfax gang yo. Protect each other's backs because this is war I tell you. The streetz are a tough place, I dropped out after 3rd grade in the DC ghetto, I learned so much and must consider myself one of the lucky ones.

Screw that. It's perfectly legal to carry a pistol on your person as long as it's not concealed. (You may only conceal with a permit) I have been carrying a .45 on my hip in Annandale for the last year, the police nod at me and the street urchin give me a wide berth when I pass by them. Protection is a personal duty, not the duty of the police. See below.

"The courts have consistently ruled that the police do not have an obligation to protect individuals. In Warren v. District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department, 444 A.2d 1 (D.C. App. 1981), the court stated: '[C]ourts have without exception concluded that when a municipality or other governmental entity undertakes to furnish police services, it assumes a duty only to the public at large and not to individual members of the community.'"

# Former Florida Attorney General Jim Smith told Florida legislators that police responded to only 200,000 of 700,000 calls for help to Dade County authorities.

# The Department of Justice found that, in 1989, there were 168,881 crimes of violence which were not responded to by police within 1 hour.

# Currently, there are about 150,000 police officers on duty to protect a population of more than 300,000,000 Americans.

I have preached the same thing for years when people say just let the police handle it. There are only so many cops. In the event of a true emergency like an extended blackout, flood or tornado you will be on your own. It isnt that the cops dont want to help you it is that they cant help you and the other one million plus people in Fairfax. In the gas shortages of the 70's people killed over gasoline. What do you think they will do for food or property.

Anyone who ever doubts the value of a weapon need only look back at the L A riots. With a waiting period to purchase a gun the unarmed law abiding were left stranded. The cops would not respond to certain areas. Not that they couldnt it was they wouldnt.

I notice that article has all the usual "safety tips" for people to avoid crime, except, of course, for the one that works best: arming yourself.

"I got a 6,000-watt generator and the cutest little Smith & Wesson, snub-nose .38 you ever saw," she boasted. "I've never been more confident."

im sure it will make the cutest lil entry wound and the ghastliest exit wound she ever saw as well.

Right...if all of us get guns, crime will go down.... keep telling yourself that.

I CCW a S&W Shield 9mm. I practice on it twice a month. I carry it inner waist band. I could be wearing shorts a t shirt on a hot summer day and you wouldnt notice I am carrying.

Its all about common sense folks. Unfortunately far to many people just go buy guns to just have them. They dont learn to use them at all they just let their say AR sit on a bookshelf loaded and believe that that is enough to save them should an armed home invasion happen etc.

Im a pretty good shot with my Shield. I have taken a couple short courses on how to pull it quick while seeking cover and how to fire and move accurately. Awesome gun has yet to jam at all.

If youre gonna get a gun ANY kind of gun learn how to properly and safely use the damn thing. You are more likely to end up shooting yourself or accidentally popping off a round into the neighbors house if you do not.

Sad truth is the majority of US gun owners really just dont know how to properly use their guns let alone safely. Gang bangers are more likely to shoot themselves or some one else besides their intended target. Holding your Glock sideways in a Gangsta grip somehow is still taken seriously by new generations of gang bangers. By all means go ahead and miss wildly.

House gun is a Mossberg 590 A1 loaded with buck shot. I practice on that as well. Can break it down clean it put it back together etc. The Mossy comes to the range with me as well. Sometimes we go skeet shooting. Great gun.

Open carry-there are just a handful of places where one can open carry in public and nobody gives it a second thought. These places are rare but do exist. Open carry say in Fairfax County could get you shot by a CCW holder or police. Remember folks your open carry rights do NOT trump private property. I cannot believe the number of assholes that think its their constitutional right to carry their AR15 over their shoulder into Wal Mart for example.

Of COURSE the cops get called. Those jack nuts that went into a Chipotle with AR's and other long guns then threw a fit when they were told to leave and that it was private property and that fire arms were not allowed are a perfect example of what is wrong.

Some open carry jack nuts decided to gather in the parking lot in front of a Home Depot. Once again-private property. The cops came and either took their guns or unloaded them and took their ammo and were ordered to leave.

Use your head people. In a life or death situation should I miss my attacker with my 9mm and that ONE round goes another block and kills somebody standing in their front yard Im going down for manslaughter.

First CCW gun I got was a S&W model 640 .357 Magnum. Being young and naive I bought the hottest ammo I could for it. It was what I took my CCW course at NRA HQ with. That gun was expensive and total overkill. Sure it was compact 5 round cylinder with the hammer built on the inside but Jesus Fing Christ the fireball that came out of that thing was massive and blinding. It was so loud my ears rang for a couple days. The recoil was so hard it damn near bucked up and hit me in the forehead on the first shot.

In a self defense situation with that gun Id likely miss but the fireball and deafening BANG it made when fired would send just about anybody running. It took a month to get that thing on target consistently. Magnum power is freaking incredible. I ended up selling the damn thing to pay taxes.

Years later I renew my CCW and did a ton of research keeping in mind my experience with that wild .357. The Shield is reliable as a hammer, can take +P ammo and has a vast aftermarket for it from holsters to parts. Most importantly it is super easy to conceal under almost any kind of clothing. Best of all I only paid 400 bucks for a brand new one came with 2 mags and a crude plastic like mag holder. All Ive done is put glow in the dark sights on it and that was expensive enough. The trigger to me is perfectly fine. Still has yet to jam at all.

practice practice practice. I live in Mt Vernon I see somebody walking down the side of the highway open carrying I would call the cops but know full well it would only be another minute or two before the individual was spotted and surrounded by Ffx.

Entirely too sane for this forum (or any open carry thread anywhere - you must be a lib who likes firearms).
