Dear TJ community,

Many of you may be aware that a protest group based in Topeka, Kansas,
and
calling itself Westboro Baptist Church has scheduled a demonstration
just
outside the property of TJ from 8:00am to 8:30am on Monday, March 22nd.
This
group is based in Kansas but stages protests at various sites around the
country, and on March 22nd they plan to protest near multiple prominent
locations in the DC area. Their message is anti-government and promotes
hatred based on sexual orientation. Their demonstration is scheduled to
last
no more than 30 minutes.

I have been working closely with Fairfax County law enforcement
officials
and Fairfax County school officials to minimize the impact of this event
on
the instructional program at TJ. I am encouraging all our students,
faculty
and community members to ignore the extreme message of this group and
specifically not to engage in counter protest near this group. We
anticipate
a group of no more than 6-8 people. Their videographers are well-armed
to
capture counter-protest reactions and place them in social media outlets
to
embarrass others. Such counter protests would only give this very small
group of people the media attention they want and draw further attention
to
them and to their message.

There will be additional school and law enforcement officials at school
that
morning to ensure a minimal impact on school operations. I will also
continue to monitor the situation closely and communicate with you
promptly
regarding any additional information regarding this event.

This is the same group that protest at funeral services at military members who were killed in combat. Useless bunch that are not deserving, but the 1st Amendment is for all. Hopefully nothing will happen to feed into their egos.

I do not understand this group at all. Why picket at a High School? Or funerals?
Neither HS kids, teachers or students can do a thing about the current policy and neither can dead people.


Its like they have a really crappy marketing plan trying to get as many people to be against them as possible, even if they may have anti-homosexual sympathies.

The Supreme Court is going to hear the case against them that their bile isn't covered under the 1st amendment later on this year. Should be a nail-biter!

Maybe they are protesting Glazer's failure to provide oversight over his school's financial administration?

Is this Westboro group picketing/protesting in various locations around the DC area? That's what I am guessing. Not sure why they chose a spot close to TJ/FCPS property.

Dr. Glazer is right-the less attention we give them, the better.

Anyone starting off with "No offense..." usually intends to offend.

Highly unlikely that the comment has any truth to it.

People freak out about the WBC bvut 90% of the time it seems they don't show up where they say they will anyways.

Is it me or do these Westboro people seem like kind of a gloryhole, Colleen Lindvall, garbage cut-n-paste, or that Gustavson asshole type troll, only on a huge scale?
