That was the original, up the street from L&F, which was at #56 L. After the fire, it moved to #24 O, S.E. Upstairs was the Follies, which was a movie house and dicky bar. Downstairs was a glory hole. Next door, at #20, was the bath house. At #18 was La Cage Aux Follies, a drag queen joint. Around the other corner, at 1345 Half, S.E. was The Other Side, a dykee bar that had a heavy straight male clientele, as well. There was also the Pier, which had more than a couple of names and purposes over the years, too, at 1845 Half, S.W.
I was in the transportation business back then, so we carried a lot of people to and from those places. They Alphabet People and other ALT-types were down there because it was mostly warehouses and stuff like that, so it was deserted at night, Those people just wanted to be left alone, so they went where nobody was.
