Favoritism and an unwillingness to hold police officers to account were known to happen under the long term of Morrogh's predecessor, Robert Horan. Under Moran though the Commonwealth Attorney's office was an extension of law enforcement. Under his successor Morrogh it has increasingly become an extension of the office of finance and revenue. Sure Fairfax County cops in Moran's time happily wrote tickets that Moran's office got the judges to rubber stamp. This is fucking pathetic. We have an incumbent commonwealth attorney who is running on being soft on crime, and the challenger in his party is running on a position that we need to be even softer on crime. SOME PEOPLE JUST NEED TO BE THROWN IN JAIL.

Before dismissing crimes as penny ante, look at the impact the particular crime has on the victim. You steal $100 from me and I am inconvenienced by having to go to the ATM and pull another $100 out. To others that $100 is the family's grocery money for the week.

Other criminal activity while affordable can still have a huge impact on the victims. A driver without a license or insurance who hits someone and drives away is guaranteeing that the victim will now need to take a couple of days off work to get the car fixed...or worse the victim is going to have to go out and buy a new car, usually requiring even more time out of the victim's life, plus probably money out of the victim's pocket even after insurance.

Dangerous. Many of us consider unprovoked physical assaults to be dangerous. Under our current commonwealth attorney these are frequently dealt with by fines.

Jail has an impact on most people that is far greater than just having to go through the criminal process. The amount of time imposed does not have to be onerous. A couple of weeks is usually enough to send a message not just to the criminal but also to his buddies inclined to commit similar acts. Or we could make them dress up in lovely orange colored jump suits and clean up our highways.
