I don't understand what you feel the cops are gaining from this? They're delivering people that need mental health treatment to a certified facility in hopes that they get the treatment they need and can someday function in society. It's not like a police department is making money off of this process. In fact, it's costing more money in salary because of the length of time the process takes.

I do not think it's woodburn that is corrupt. It is the police taking advantage of naive staff at Woodburn.
Not trying to save Woodbums here at all. They are poorly educated mental health care professionals who are more worried about throwing pills at a problem rather than fixing it.

The Police is at fault because they KNOW when they drop someone off the FIRST thing anyone at Woodbums is going to do is ask the officer why the person was dropped off.

I went to Woodburn when I was a teenager and up until I moved out of state when I was 22. I can't tell you how depressed I was and how many times I wanted to commit suicide. I went twice a week. Once for group sessions and once for individual therapy. I paid $1 a week, as they charged you what you could afford. Had I not gone to Woodburn, I firmly believe I would not be sitting here now typing this.

The psychiatrist never questioned the information he received. I've run into this repeatedly. I've been told by psychiatrists it is a felony to provide false information in a referral. But I can't find this law anywhere. And if it is a felony it is clear most people do not know it. I've had the same problem in Washington State, after reporting a Special Education Director at a small school district for fraud and embezzlement. His professional collegues claimed I had made a false report and made a referral to a psychiatrists and psychologists. But they further polluted the information by erroneously claiming I had reported a professor for proposing marriage during classroom instruction. This statement was not only false, it completely took people away from what and who I really reported. Luckily I wasn't prescribed medicine for a mental illness. But the act did serve to discredit me as an eye witness. The man I reported was finally caught and charged 15 years later. One collegue was charged with providing false information during a police investigation and one attorney was fired from the Washington State Attorney General's Office. But there has been no penalty for providing false information to a psychiatrist. Is it even illegal? I still can't obtain my teaching certificate in Washington State, because the OPP insists on "steering the psychiatrist in the RIGHT direction" by providing the erroneous story of a complaint against a professor.

For one most background checks will ask whether or not you EVER consulted with a mental health professional, PERIOD! Apparently you need a psych evaluation, give it a shot, same people (I know, I work for both) work for public and private system, only difference is that private system screws the providers more...I stoppped taking insurances because of this so you probably would get better treatment from public. No one wants to take insurance anymore-8 hours per invoice, listening to morons try to get you off the phone.

No, Woodburn is voluntary. My mom thought I was depressed, so she took me. She had no idea they would abuse a heart patient. Sorry to those of you have had so much trouble. I haven't had any such experience. I'm not only getting therapy but pay only $5 per prescription. I always had major medical insurance until I lost my job. The doctors/therapists in my network were terrible. I finally got hooked up with Woodburn which has been very helpful. Mental health assistance won't always help those who need it, but it will for those who want it.

What is or is not considered "mentally ill" is all up to interpretation. Is owning 50 sculptures mentally ill? One psychiatrist will say yes. Another will say no. Is changing your sheets twice a week mentally ill? Is it more sane to change them monthly? Is taking out the trash weekly mentally ill, or is taking it out monthly more sane, or daily- is that more sane? Why can't we all just get along and everybody stop fighting? Everyone takes a different point of view and everyone has a different opinion. I don't know anyone personally at Woodburn Mental Health. All I want to say is that one person's opinion can be totally different than other person's opinion of the same stimuli. Each person perceives things differently. So, if we disagree, is one of us mentally ill then? No. We are all human beings with different opinions and we all have human rights endowed by our creator and those rights are right to life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness, which no one can take away because our creator will destroy those who do!

There was a discussion on NPR some months back on the "Diane Rehm Show" regarding a change of diagnosis of patients. Patients who had a spouse or loved one who had passed away recently, were considered to have an "illness" if this grief extended past a certain period of time (I think it was two weeks). Can you imagine a doctor diagnosing someone who has lost their wife or husband with an "illness" after such a short time? Crazy. It seems like the inmates are running the institutions these days.
