This topic demonstrates the appalling ignorance of some on the right when it comes to programs such as Low Income Housing. Fairfax County has participated in the Federal low income housing program and has done so for decades.
People who meet the income threshold though cannot just walk off the streets and obtain free or low cost housing. There is only so much housing and so many dollars devoted to the program and the demand far exceeds that. If you walked into the office off the street you would get put on the waiting list, IF YOU WERE LUCKY. That's right. Not only is housing not available, there are times when the backlog for housing is so great that the County has stopped taking applications. This story is about the fact that Fairfax County is now again taking applications, not about them handing out housing.
Now if you want to be outraged there is a locality in this area that has been handing out section 8 vouchers (they aren't called that anymore BTW) and encouraging the recipients to use them in other jurisdictions, including Fairfax County.
