Which is your health issuance company

I been debating between the

blue cross blue shield PPO
and
blue cross blue shield HMO-
They cost is the same the only different is with the PPO I can go to any doctor in the States, and which the HMO I can go to any doctor in the DMV...

I really don't understand when will I have a doctor that is not in the DMV?

If price differential is manageable, the PPO is the best choice. HMO limits you to doctors that have signed the HMO contract. If your dr has not signed the HMO contract, but is a ppo provider, you will be charged out of network prices..

Complicated? Yes.
Safest bet..PPO

That’s strange, I never see any doctors at DMV when I am renewing my tags.

I have Obamacare. Cost me nothing because as an Artist my income is low and almost as good as your Cigna Cadillac Plan (PPO).

One word: Travel. Say you are on a family road trip, and then your kid gets a 104 fever and needs to go to the hospital or urgent care. It's dicey the coverage you will get, especially at out-of-state urgent care providers under an HMO.

Also, local PPO networks tend to be bigger than HMO networks. You won't know that until you actually need to see a specialist.

This shows why the American health care system is so messed up. I have Tricare. I would rather have Uncle Sam controlling my care instead of somebody concerned about their eight figure salary any day. I have worldwide coverage. Just can't use CVS. Single payer FTW.

The government? They do such a good job for our vets. Father and brother are both veterans and they refuse to have anything to do with the va.

With Tricare we use private sector providers. Government sets the rates and pays the bills.

We'll end up there alright. But the dislocations of going in one fell swoop would be severe. We'll need to sneak up on it. Obamacare is a good start, despite what morons like Trump or McConnell might think.

^^^ Exactly. It's an inexorable course that we're on. The global success of single-payer is more than compelling. There simply isn't any point to paying more for worse overall care. Bit by bit and piece by piece, the current system needs to be dismantled and replaced by one that serves everyone better. The stupid people can cry 'Socialism!' all they want. It won't make a bit of difference in the long-run.

PPO: Doc gets paid to see you.
HMO: Doc gets paid to NOT see you.

If you're young and healthy, HMO is probably fine. If you have any sort of issues, think twice.

Buy the best coverage you can currently afford. The cheap-o policies will come with loopholes that keep you from renewing down the road. Get something that doesn’t do that.
