Democrats call this Universal Background Checks . Any firearm transfers would be required by federal law to be made through a federal licensed firearms dealer with a background check of the person the firearm is transferred to or any trust any firearm is transferred to

If any bill has language that allows private firearms transfers to immediate family members only it may pass both houses and be signed into law by President Trump.

Ending Private Sale means more then just sales of firearms, it applies to any type of firearm transfer of ownership as sales, trades or gifts are called. Immediate family members are any grandparents, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons or daughters.

Turning any unwanted firearm over to law enforcement would be allowed without any dealer involvement

Very true, I was going to state what you have posted, no deal with any computerized firearms registry on any private sale laws passing

What could pass would be a background check with all transfers thru a FFL dealer and the immediate family exceptions and no computerized data base registry as it is right now.

If a firearm is recovered they can be traced to the original dealer, and down the line till they hit a dead end, if organized criminals use the firearms in commission of crimes the serial numbers will be removed anyway. This is what is being currently done.

The BATF required ammunition sales records for many years, it was stopped because no crimes were solved with all the effort.

When criminals steal firearms all background checks go out the door.

The same when persons with no criminal records storm in and wantonly kills innocent people as the Jews in their Synagogue in Pittsburgh , all of them elderly people, one woman 97 years old, a mindless disgusting act of supreme cowardice by the gunman.

The way to test a universal background check proposal against the fears of "gun nuts" is very simple. The gun nuts don't want a firearm registration system in place where the government knows what firearms you own or who you sold or gave them to after their initial purchase.

It would probably appease gun nuts enough to not block it if the "universal background check" did not include the type, model, or serial number of the firearm for private sales (these are already recorded for new-gun purchases and stores AND shows).

Without that info, we get the benefit of a yes-or-no if a person should be allowed to purchase a firearm, and at the same time prevent the building of a firearm registry of citizens.

The Gun Show Loophole originally was a label used to refer to all lawful gun sales where the purchaser wasn't required to undergo a background check and not simply to sales at gun shows. The origin was long long ago when Bloomberg's group used the term in its campaign specifically to shut down gun shows. As had been done already in NY. Mostly referring to those in VA and elsewhere along the East Coast which they claimed were a major source of guns into NY/NYC (which they aren't).

Anyone who knows what they're talking about understand that there is no "gun show loophole. There are no differences in the law that apply at gun shows vs anywhere else. It made little sense in Bloomberg's case but at least had some tie to his specific objective at the time. It makes absolutely no sense otherwise and just makes clear that anyone using the term doesn't know wtf they're talking about.

The great majority of sales at these shows like the one in Fairfax are through the licensed dealers there with instant background checks by Virginia State Police on their own computers who are at the show

In Fairfax, there were no gun shows while Fairfax Had the 3 day waiting period.

They took guns out of play in Mexico, Brazil, Russia, and many other places with much higher murder and suicide rates than ours. Looking at Japan which has a relatively isolated an very homogeneous population/society without places like inner-city Baltimore and very low associated rates of gang and other criminal activity and overall violence otherwise to begin with isn't a valid comparison. And, as above, its suicide rate still is much higher.
