Are ESL teachers draining the FCPS budget?

My wife thinks I’m an asshole and maybe I am but I’m beginning to wonder. FCPS always has a big battle over the budget, meanwhile they need more and more ESL teachers to support all the non English speaking kids of all the “people of color” streaming into ffx. So we are paying for those extra salaries at what expense to our kids who already speak English and could maybe use some enrichment programs or interventions or any number of other educational supports.

Oh and these non English speaking kids- I doubt most of their parents are paying property taxes toward the schools because they’re all renters.

Starting to make Trunpism look more attractive.

Your wife is only partially correct about you being a asshole. You are in fact an ignorant asshole. You need to look at the big picture. These teachers will teach thousands of immigrant children to speak english and the majority of those children will get jobs because of this and end up paying multiple millions of dollars in taxes. Without that education most of them will wind up collecting welfare dollars.
Education has no cost, it is an investment in the futures that pays and pays and pays. The more money we put in it now the more money we receive later.

Stop being so dumb as not to realize that everyone pays property taxes. You can pay them yourself or you can fork them over to a landlord instead. Either way, you are in fact paying them.

As for ESL, many here would have benefited from such a class, while no one has actually benefited from the funds wasted on high school football programs and the consussions they cause.

The pakkis and kikes who rent 2 frijoleros pay taxes on their property. They figure the cost of the taxes in the rent. So it's really the frijoleros who pay the taxes.

If you tell the frijolero what the rent is, he takes it or leaves it.

If the negro doesn't like the rent, he cries "skrimminayshinn!" and "prejidiss!" and threatens to sue you for housing discrimination.

Well guess what, negroes. A lot of landlords still practice housing discrimination b/c they don't want to deal with negroes who don't pay rent. At least the frijoleros pay the rent.

English would be appreciated, and iguana eaters or chocolate faces, along with ragheads aren't useful

President Trump and ICE are doing a great job but we need the army to clear out these low lives from our nation.

As soon as they touch a welfare dime they can go home too, if they cant work for their keep send them back as soon as they arrive snap that green card back, no freeloaders from other countries allowed. If the USA has to pay for their return 1 way ticket home that's cheaper by trillons in the end

Esl teachers can be useful but most float around classrooms with zero accountability. In the end, that brings contempt torward their job... the more you know

You are an asshole, but it is because you are focused on the wrong issue. It is not cost. It is quality of education.

We have to have ESL. County demographics make it beneficial. Federal statute mandates it. If it wasn't mandated by Federal statute there are cases suggesting the Supreme Court might require it of public school systems. So we are going to have to spend money to provide ESL. Get used to it.

Providing ESL doesn't mean we have to offer ESL the way we do. Pulling kids kids out for ESL programs adversely affects the quality of education, both of the students pulled out for ESL and those left behind. Putting kids in classrooms when their command of English isn't adequate to learn the material adversely affects the quality of both those students and the rest of the class. It is significantly increasing the workload on classroom teachers, burning many of them out.

We need to be looking at solutions which better help those in need of language services AND have a less adverse effect on those students who don't. There are solutions that could accomplish this, but adopting them means changing some of our educational philosophies. In the long run those solutions would save money. However cost savings should not be the driving factor in deciding to make the changes. That should be the higher quality of education.

And to the people who want to make this a racial issue or an illegal immigrant issue, You are part of the reason why those pushing for educational reforms to improve quality have trouble succeeding.

At a rate of >1000 per year, unaccompanied minors are flooding into ffx county. How much does it cost to educate non-english speaking kids per year? How many over time are in our school system? Seems like we are spending 10s or 100s of millions a year to have them in FCPS. At best, they will have non tax paying "day labor" jobs after school ends.

We need a wall to save this money, save the heroin flow over the border which would save countless lives.

Those who don't work day labor, are working child sex trafficking and drug sales for MS13.

Build the wall!

If you don't speak english, you should not be in public school. If you need to an ESL class, pay for it yourself at Learning Tree or some other means.

Public schools are charged with educating all who show up at the door. You don't get to pick and choose the way private schools do. Meanwhile, ESOL is one of hundreds of line items in the FCPS budget. It doesn't drain resources any more than the rest of them do.
