I just need to rant anonymously for a minute. I have a lot of Korean friends and even speak a little Korean, but my God... they are taking over everything!!! From Annandale all the way out to Centreville and in between, there are Korean businesses popping up everywhere! There are entire shopping centers where every single business is Korean owned... Even good old American restaurant chains are Korean owned... and then they try to put their own spin on it by adding an option involving Bulgogi or something... we don’t need anymore Bulgogi, and if I wanted that I would go to one of the many KOREAN restaurants not an American or Italian or whatever else! And these old Korean ladies just can’t cook the food authentically. I’m also tired of shopping at Lotte and H Mart and getting rung up by a cashier who either says ZERO words to me the entire transaction (I would have gotten fired for being so rude as a cashier) or she (usually a she) completely ignores me and loudly talks to the cashier next to her in Korean while she rings me up, again does not say a word to me or even acknowledge me at all not even to tell me what the total is, and then hands me the receipt without even looking at me. These are the rudest people ever!!! I even try to say thank you in Korean and they still ignore me. My god you don’t have customer service in Korea I guess. Oh and I happen to know that a lot of these people are undocumented visa overstayers which is why they don’t speak English and maybe why they’re scared to talk to me. Makes you wonder though... your country is a developed democracy, so why are you coming to America illegally in the first place and are we really supposed to put you in the same category as other immigrants who rightly claim to be oppressed people who are struggling to find a better life? Because I am actually a liberal and I know better than to write posts like this because it’s prejudiced or whatever you want to call it... it sounds bad I know. But seriously when you think about it.... all the arguments I’ve seen and heard about why we should not appropriate other cultures and why “people of color” have it so hard are only valid when those people actually have it hard. In this case, they came from a perfectly good country that’s a developed democracy just like ours! Sure they may have been poor or had struggles there but plenty of Americans are struggling too! Does that mean we should start moving to Korea, take over a part of the country and refuse to learn the language or assimilate, go on and on about our American pride and then accuse the Korean people who live there of being racist if they have a problem with that?

I work with Koreans who are nice and work hard, but they have zero interest in doing the whole "becoming part of American culture" thing like the Irish/Italians did.

I was talking with a coworker about hobbies, and he was saying he basically just watches K Dramas after work and goes to Annandale on the weekend for Church. So basically, only speaks and hears English at work even tho he is native born. And then I thought to myself "yep, that is why you still make odd grammar mistakes even though you are technically as american as i am."

They get pissed tho when they do not get promoted above technical positions. It is because even ones born in America have weird English usage (like dropping articles all the time...saying things like 'Are you in office?' instead if 'Are you in the office?'), and i guess management do not want seemingly non-native english skills in front of clients.
