Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
"Power Problem For WMAL - 2/13 - Sources tells DCRTV that Cumulus, which currently is filing for bankruptcy protection, didn't get around to paying the power bill for WMAL's 105.9 FM signal. So, Dominion Virginia Power turned off the juice to the news talker's Merrifield transmitter on Friday. The station remained on the air by tapping into the generator owned by Entercom sports talker WJFK, 106.7. Power was restored to WMAL's site by Sunday, we're told, after arrangements to pay the power bill were made....."
That is f'ing crazy. All those ads I am forced to endure cannot pay the power bills? I guess some untalented/overpaid people, like Vince Coglianese, need to be kicked to the curb.

Actually, WMAL fired Michael Graham in 2005 under pressure from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a group affiliated with Hamas. Of course, the so-called "mainstream media" downplays CAIR's affiliation with Hamas.

this 501c mis-information message was given to you by "the ad council"
WMAL News Radio is a voice of reason in a world where the NY Times, washington Post, CNN and MSNBC have ridden of the rails of the crazy train.
I hope they get their financial $hit straightened out.
I listen quite often - Chris Plante is especially enjoyable to listen to.
I couldn't tell you one product they endorse of the top of my head, though. Apparently most other listeners can't either. I haven't bought anything they've endorsed.

Larry is good but he often comes out swinging for the Democrats if you follow.
* Valentine's day: full day of covering women's hate against men instead of something like love and good relationships
* Massacre: ordered any congressional listener to PASS A GUN CONTROL BILL NOW. that's not a republican position
He must be from California. I like his attitude, fine radio voice, but I certainly don't think he shares the "Republican View" of things.
HOWEVER: He continually does launch attacks at Democrats and what they're trying to get away with, which I appreciate. He's no slouch.

He'll put your mind in a bender though. He's always approaching the crazy angle of what democrats are doing. If you listen to it regularly or on "repeat" (for hours) it can drive you crazy listening to the "crazy logic", it can actually effect your work as your working depending if your having one of those days.
WTOP is far worse of course! They design mind rot stories to assault the mind in some way, democrat propaganda and fake news. "News flash. Man losses his 1/2 million dollar home in court because his dog looked the wrong way at an office. Some called this unfair but arlington supervisors assured that they hand't made any error".

story and logic sound familiar? that's because it's what they do 1/2 the time on that show.

Graham did an excellent job of breaking things down. He could explain a group's hidden agenda in way that was easily understandable. CAIR didn't like this so they started their own campaign against him. I believe at one point he was receiving death threats. Is he still on the air someplace?

You are an idiot.
Yes Graham did say something inappropriate. Yes CAIR did complain. Big Whoop.
When Howard Stern was at DC101, Prince Charles came to DC. At that time Charles was engaged to Diana, some 20 years his junior. Howard called elementary schools in the area trying to find a date for Charles. The British Embassy sent a letter of complaint to the station. It was framed in the studios for years. So these complaints don't really bother stations.
At the Graham time, WMAL was run by a moron/idiot/corporate ass kicker named RANDALL BLOOMQUIST. Not to be confused with Bill Hess, who is also all those things and worse. who decided on a publicity stunt for their aged, prejudiced and under-informed audience. Suspend Graham and get his name in the papers etc which will attract more aged, prejudiced, and under-informed people to listen to the station.
The stunt did not work. No one "Cair-d" (pun). So Randall just fired Michael Graham. Grahams ratings were abysmal anyway.

No. Michael Graham worked on a radio station in Boston for a few years until that station changed formats. Today he is a columnist for the Boston Herald and hosts an online podcast for Ricochet, a center-right website.

WMAL might provide right wing balance to some of the left leaning media, but there is no longer anything reasonable about its Monday to Friday schedule. It is nothing more than a bunch of right wingers trying to out right wing each other. WRC used to be right wing too, but their hosts were not afraid to tell conservative whack jobs "you're full of shit".
Because of that, its best to look at differing sources and then make an opinion. I get it, its hard because that would mean listening to things that challenge your viewpoint.
