Hey gs, any chance they'll ever give me a credit for the time a thunderstorm knocked my cable out for a fucking week? They said they would at the time, but never did. Maybe you have to call a few dozen times before they issue a credit?

Anyway, that played a part in my decision to say yes when the FiOS man came knocking.

Cox has a brilliant business plan that is all too common these days....piss off a long-time customer that has mailed you $150 checks every month for years over a lousy $20-30 credit for services NOT rendered.

Maybe Cox just hasn't gotten used to the idea that they're no longer a monopoly...

I've had Verizon FiOS for a few years and they've been great.
- The picture is awesome.
- Their channel guide and VOD menus are much better than Cox.
- I can program and manage my DVR from the web.
- They carry tons of local college and high school sports on their FiOS1 local channel & offer them for free in their VOD section for months at a time.
- My internet is fast and reliable.

I will NEVER switch back to Cox.

Hah, I became a fan of their facebook so I could be alerted if my cable was going to go out during a major sporting event.

But, I got a free month of digital service. And for poor people like me this is good. Becuase Cox is like 3/4 the price of Verizon, their internet is as fast as Verizon's when it works, and if I ever get a problem, when I call in I talk to a real person who is in Nova. (after you get past that angry computer lady who tries and fails to answer my question)

See Tubby, if verizon ever screws up your bill (which is inevitable) and you call to get it fixed, you will talk to some angry guy who hates his job and will charge you more money for complaining. Plus after 12 months your price doubles but, oh crap, I am on a two year contract and cant get out without paying 500 bucks. With Cox I pay 45 bucks a month, each month, and I can cancel it anytime and there is no problems.

I will NEVER switch to Verizon.

Hey Tubby - I honestly apologize for that experience. That's not how things are supposed to get done. I'll be glad to look into it if it means anything to you now that you've moved to FiOS. If you send me your address at the time you have Cox - send it to my company e-mail address - gwen.sparks@cox.com, I'll get you some answers. If not, I understand and appreciate your open dialog on the challenges you had.

TefD187 - Send me your info as well and tell me what service issues you're having and I'll get it looked into. I'm not a tech but I can get issues to the right place and I honestly want to help. My company e-mail is gwen.sparks@cox.com. I know no company is perfect but we can certainly do better.

I have to admit, the Cox customer service is really good, but: I only know this because I've lost count how many times I had to call them due to problems with my digital cable! Luckily Verizon guys are coming to my hood in the next few days.

We'd like the opportunity to continue serving you. If you're willing to give Cox another opportunity, I can get someone to look at the issues and figure out what's going on and how we can minimize the need for you to have to call on your service. Just let me know if that will make a difference to you and I'll take care of it.

As soon as FiOS comes to my community (in the next 60 days) I will get rid of Cox, once and for all.

I've used Media General/Cox since 1987. Can't wait to call and cancel

I'll be canceling my Cox account and moving to Verizon FIOS very soon. I could list a dozen reasons, but I won't bore you with the details. Spamming forums such as this one by Cox is just ONE MORE REASON.

Idiots!

How did Cox get such a stranglehold on Fairfax anyway? I've never seen such a heavily populated area that didn't have more choices when it comes to cable and internet.

I had Verizon and hated them, and their rude service. At least when I have a issue with Cox I can talk with someone to get it resolved, and the folks I've spoke with have been quite courteous.

No hold. Fairfax has options (Dish, DirectTV, VZ) and I'm sure those options will continue to increase as technology evolves. I do recognize that we can do things better.

Because, when cable TV was in it's infancy, cable companies were granted a monopoly because "wiring" the County was very expensive. An outfit called Media General wired Fairfax County....Cox bought them out years ago.

I have Cox. Customer service is great, On demand menu sucks really bad, rarely have problems though. It's much easier to deal with Cox then Verizon because you're talking to someone down the street as opposed to someone in India reading off a script.

Ron - the On Demand menu is going to change sometime in Q12010. Supposed to be easier to use. If we have a customer trial of it (not in the marketing group so not sure if they plan on having one but I'll check) would you want to be part of the trial?

Finally got over to pick up my stuff. Awesome.

Can I win twice? Or do I need to re-register w/ another email......:D

I agree with Ron- the on demand menu isn't all that great. Kind of clunky. However, if it's supposed to get worked over next quarter, I'm thrilled to hear it.

I'll list the issues here just in case others have the same. I have digital with 2 HD boxes (one is DVR).
- Sound: on many channels the sound interrupts every few seconds. This mostly occurs in evening hours, although that's pretty much the only time I watch TV so dunno if it happens during the day
- Every few weeks some digital/HD channels are not visible at all. First I've called Cox every time, but then learned to just reboot boxes. Channels come back after 5-20 mins.
- Once in a while boxes reboot by themselves. The service comes back in 5-20 mins; digital/HD channels might take longer.
- Internet is at the claimed speed according to speedtest.net (I have 'value'), but once in a while it goes away for 5 - 30 mins. I mean completely away, independent of whether I connect via router or directly.

Oh, and I had to replace HD DVR twice.

Price, I am really sorry that you've had these issues. If you will e-mail me your address I can have this looked into properly (need your address and phone info.) E-mail me at gwen.sparks@cox.com and I'll have someone on it right away. Or you can call me if that's easier (and this is for anyone having trouble with Cox service) 703-480-4916. Touch base when you have a minute and we'll take care of it.

Gwen, I've sent you my account info, but geez, have you guys even tested your website? I wanted to check my statement, but it doesn't show up (I use plain Win 7 & IE8). You'd think that since I save Cox few cents every month by not asking for paper statement, you'd make it work at least as a gratitude to your customers...
