Can a rural candidate like Ralph Northam really relate to Fairfax County?

Or will he just abide by the current DNC talking points?

I don't know, I'm just not that scared of Gillespie being a Trump clone and doing mass deportations and banning abortion like the crazy lefties always say is going to happen. (never does BTW). I have some problems with Ed, but I just feel like Northam will be some hick like Creigh Deeds who could never really get his shit together and was just imitating what his city cousins in the party are doing.

If a bombastic New York Robber Baron can relate to Americans in rural America, why can't Northam?

Fairfax isn’t some completely dispirited rust belt backwater, people here don’t need fear and hatred as a motivating factor in an election. That seems to be the centerpiece of Gillespie’s campaign.

Northam wants to roll out the red carpet for illegals. No way I'd vote for him.

The real question is if either candidate will take time from the shit slinging and put out a meaningful message. Have not seen one ad from either party that wasn't an attack

Right. He has recruiting parties lined up to fan out over Central America to urge people to come here, and once over the border he has luxury busses waiting to whisk them up to Fairfax where they will pick up their Welcome to America gift baskets at the Government Center. Could you be any stupider?

Illegals come here for the same reasons legal immigrants do. Jobs and an existing communities of people from their homeland top that list. If you want to discourage illegals from coming here then increase taxes to pay for more county officials to enforce housing codes and other quality of life issues and increase taxes to pay for more jail space and guards to hold people caught driving without licenses and identity fraud. Fighting illegals in the short term costs money.

Didn't use to be like that. Candidates previously would take more extreme positions to appeal to the base in primaries, then would moderate those positions in the general election to appeal to the voters in the middle. When the base started seeing this as selling out and started sitting out the election, candidates discovered the had to continue playing to the base during the general election. Since they could no longer appeal to moderate voters by adopting their positions, candidates switched to trying to win the moderates by portraying their opponents as being even worse.

I saw a Northam TV ad yesterday. He's running against President Trump. Not Ed Gillespie...

Who do you want leading Virginia? Some New Jersey gibroni, carpet-bagging mope? Or Ralph Northam...a man who is Virginia born, Virginia bred and Virginia educated?

Vote Virginia. Vote Northam.

No doubt...I'm informed and enlightened to the importance of voting against carpetbaggers. The next conservative that changes their position on a significant issue...will be the first.
