If UVA wanted to, it could as easily classify them as foreign students. Like most top schools UVA offers admission to a number of foreign students each year. The class that started in the fall of 2016 had students from 102 different countries.

I hardly think of Harvard as a "college of choice"...
Fine school delivering fine educaton. Everyone wants to go there, few are admitted and fewer actually attend.
Going to Ivy League for undergrad is a waste of time and money. Unless you're on a full ride. Then it's just a waste of time.

Private schools can do what they want. But state schools should be limited to families who have paid state taxes for the previous four years, military stationed here, and a limited number of students from other states where we have a reciprocal admissions agreement.

Let's be honest ...
The people complaining have no dog in the fight for a number of factors anyway.
- They don't have kids and still live in their mom's basement
- They are too socially awkward to actually get and sustain a relationship with a partner to have children.
- If they did beat the odds and procreate they are too stupid to have a child actually intelligent enough to go to Tufts much less Harvard.
- Cracker Barrel doesn't pay enough for them to send their kids to the college of their choice either.

Why should military families get a pass. They live here using the facilities and services paid for by taxes from Virginia residents. Let them send their kids back to colleges in the states they claim as their residences. If Texas and Florida are so great, let their kids go to UT or FSU.

Even if you are in the top 10% of your class and got SAT scores in the top 10% there is no guarantee that you wold get into one of these top schools. If you weren't in the top 10% of your class it would be a true long shot.
People here act like the 200-300 slots that went to Dreamer kids at UVA would have gone to their kids. Unless your kid graduated from a school like Mount Vernon, chances are that whatever slot the dreamer kid got would not be one your kid was next in line to fill. At schools like Harvard it is even less likely.
