Funny how people are trying to blame Obama for the job issues in the U.S. Bush had 8 years to F up the economy and that he did!! Now everyone is putting Bush's mistakes on him. He is going in the right direction but it's going to take time to repair the mistakes the Bush Administration brought onto all of us here in the USA.

The problem is when in 4 years our economy is even worse people will still be blaming Bush....even though we were promised "Change".

Change takes time especially when you come into office under the situation Obama has come into. If Obama ends up getting a chance for another term, then we will finally see his hard work start to pay off. Bush pretty much screwed us to put it simple.

...and if things do get better it would be because of the ones making decisions for him. He is not the one you think is in control of America or the one who will make any of the decisions which will either better us or screw us. Mere puppet.

There are going to be a number of FFX County workers laid off in the next round of cuts.

The free wheeling lend to anybody, no regulations under Bush killed the economy and it's a going to take a long while to recover.

We should of left the banks and mortgage companies die!

First off, no Fairfax Co. employee ever loses their job, unless they get convicted of some criminal activity. County layoffs work like this, they cut your job, but at the same time move you into an open position somewhere else in the county (probably with a raise to help you deal w/the inconvenience of having to move to another cubicle) the county employee can then go back to playing mafia wars and planning happy hours.

I figure after 2001-08, Obama and the Dems deserved a chance. I find it funny how the teabaggers are calling it the Obama recession, yet seem unwilling to assign Bush blame for the 2001 recession. I guess it's all perception.

I'm not sure what'll happen if Obama et al screw up. The teabaggers may make gains in 2010 and squeak by in 2012, but it's not as if their ideas haven't been tried in the recent past. On the other hand, the Club for Growth and others of that ilk may hijack enough House races in 2010 to spike any gains the Republicans might've made (witness NY-23).

In addition, as long as they run on the 'We don't really like non-whites that much' platform, they'll only win by getting 75% of white votes (difficult to do outside the South).

Yup. Like, they'd never have a chance winning in, say, New Jersey.

Thanks Bush for the Fucked up economy: Two wars, major bank failures, housing market crash and auto industry destroyed.

Great idea Bush to let the industries run wild with now controls. Worked well.

You're full of shit. They fire bus drivers all the time. In my 20 years, I've lost count of drivers I've seen fired, but it's several dozen, at least.

Their favorite method of firing is to let the driver begin their afternoon runs, and as the driver is waiting at a school for the kids to come out, several supervisors show up and remove the driver from their bus, never to be seen again. They do this in front of all the other drivers, I guess to add some humiliation to it.

They're very secretive and never tell us the reason a driver was fired. You would think they would tell, just for the deterrent effect.

I have a dart board of Depeche Mode up in my bedroom and I like to throw darts at their packages.....if you know what I mean. The dart, when penetrated, makes those loverboys look like they have erections for me. And I like that since I'm a gay Republican.

Yeah, it's not as if state/local and national elections have a whole different set of issues.

Sometimes it's better to be "laid off" than "laid on."

Total of 7 people were laid off from the county. Big whoop but you didn't see that in the Post. If people only new half of what Fairfax County does there would be an uprising that even they couldn't keep quiet. The County is crocked. They waste more money than anyone would believe. Spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on studies then don't implement them. The Firemen's Union helped pay for Connelly's campaign back then. They furlough employees because they say they have no money. Yeah right! But they do. Whatever, it is government and who can stop them.

Things will probably get a lot tougher for public employees before they get better.

On top of the recent cuts comes the next biennium budget, with revenues still down. Hence more funding reductions to ed, public safety, corrections, communities, etc. The stimulus money has softened the blow somewhat, but will basically be another multi-million dollar cut after FY10.

So, look for reduced services, bigger classes, less K12 programs, higher tuition, bad roads, etc., until revenue levels recover. This will be after jobs and consuming spending bounce back.

In the public sector, look for positions filled with under-performers to be eliminated. The current economy presents the opportunity to downsize effectively, in the manner that Rhee cut loose teachers who were not measuring up to standards.

As with every other downturn, this cycle will also pass in time.
