FAIRFAX, Va. - A man who led police on a two-state chase that ended with the shut down of the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway is in custody, facing multiple charges.
The chase started Wednesday morning in Montgomery County after police tried to stop Andre Tyrone Washington for a routine traffic stop.

Once Washington, 24, of Fayetteville, N.C., crossed the state line, Virginia State Police picked up the pursuit. That was about 5:25 a.m.

Virginia State Police say at 5:35 a.m. Washington's black Mercury Mountaineer rammed a state police vehicle and tried to strike other responding officers.

Troopers surrounded his vehicle. Police say Washington again rammed the trooper's vehicle.

The troopers managed to get his vehicle to stop in a southbound lane of Interstate 495 just south of Braddock Road in Fairfax County, but Washington wouldn't get out of the vehicle. Troopers forcibly took him out.

He was taken to Fairfax Inova Hospital to be checked for any injuries.

The trooper is OK.

The chase and arrest closed the Outer Loop completely for about a half-hour. It completely reopened by 7:12 a.m.

Washington faces charges of resisting arrest, a felony count of eluding police, reckless driving, damaging state property and assault. He's also charged as a fugitive from justice.

I am honestly surprised he isn't at the morgue instead of the hospital. Using a vehicle against the police is grounds for use of lethal force. He is lucky to be alive and it shows some incredible restraint by the responding officers.

It said he was from NC, but the chase started in MD - "The chase started Wednesday morning in Montgomery County after police tried to stop Andre Tyrone Washington for a routine traffic stop."

Did the chase end around Braddock Road? I passed an "accident" there this morning around 6:30 that had the two left lanes blocked. One vehicle appeared to be a dark SUV. Not a lot of police activity...3 fire trucks and mobile VDOT signage trucks.

You people are idiots. This was not a two state chase. Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of the DC Metro will know a two state chase can last about ten minutes which the article reports through the time stamps. Secondly he was going about 55 miles per hour. Not a high speed chase. Lastly, MD called off the chase because it was considered a "domestic theft", one where police typically do not pursue people for and they radioed VA police and told them that. VA police should not have even been pursuing him in the first place
