Coming straight from the plot of a Saturday night Lifetime movie: a Maryland woman, her 13-year-old daughter and the girl’s 18-year-old boyfriend have all been charged in connection with the murder of the woman’s husband and a 25-year-old woman the couple allegedly were both involved with.
Ann Marie Anastasi called police on October 5, claiming her husband, Anthony Anastasi Jr., had committed suicide in their home, reports ABC News. She said she heard Anastasi Jr. arguing with Jacquelyn Riggs, a woman who lived in their basement, the night before. Anastasi told police she found her husband the next morning when she returned home from grocery shopping, claiming she saw a gun lying next to his body. After police figured out the firearm was not the same one used to shoot Anastasi Jr, they found gunshot residue on Ann Anastasi’s person and clothing. According to USA Today, Riggs’s body was found in the basement with multiple cuts and stab wounds.
From texts on Ann Anastasi’s phone, police were able to determine two teenagers had also been involved. Anastasi and her 13-year-old daughter, had plotted the murders together, while the girls’ 18-year-old boyfriend, Gabriel Struss, was enlisted to help carry them out. “He’s never done nothing, as I know of. Never. He’s been manipulated into doing this,” Struss’s grandfather told CBS Baltimore. “I know he hung out with that girl a couple of times. He’s a teenager. He did what kids do,” added Struss’s brother. Texts between Struss and the 13-year-old showed she would be “taking the ‘fall’ or blame for the murders.”
The Anastasis had once been in a three-way relationship with Riggs, but Anthony Anastasi continued a relationship with Riggs outside of the arrangement. Their marriage had already been in trouble, but tensions rose when Riggs moved into their house.
Ann Anastasi was charged with two counts of first and second-degree murder and her daughter was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and accessory after the fact and is being held in juvenile detention. Struss was charged with two counts of first-and second-degree murder, two counts of conspiracy to commit first-and second-degree murder and two counts of firearm use in a felony crime of violence.
