Has anyone heard about the Baseball situation?
Is Rutherford leaving after this season? Is he under investigation?
Is he going to get pushed out along with the Principal and AD?

You Really have to ask that Question. It would be a much shorter list to ask which ones haven't.

Coach Rutherford will finish this season and that is all. He has been conditionally terminated.

Is Metress next?

Metress hs one more year and then he's retiring. Rutherford will coach three to five more years. He has probably, year in and year out, the most successful program in the school.

Success or retirement age doesn't seem to matter at LB.
The only thing that matters is being friends with the Principal.
If he get reassigned like the rumors say, look for Rutherford to be gone....he is not very popular with the faculty or students.

BTW......Football was just as successful and brings in way more money!!!!!!!!!!

That's because public schools value football above and beyond everything else. Particularly in Fairfax County. God forbid there should be any slight to football. Must take kids out of classes to revere the all powerful football players because hey, it's more important than anything else. Definitely more important than actually learning anything.

Public school is run with public funds. If you are unhappy about the power of sports in public educaton and feel they should be devalued or eliminated, then you need to get politically active and man up with other tax payers who feel the same way you do.

Sports are run top down so, if you want things to change then you must approach the situation top down with tactics and strategy.

I personally feel sports have become too important and the money being spent (outside of what is raised privately or donated) is too much but should not be eliminated...just moderated better. I grew up here as an FCPS kid and was a 4 sport athlete in high school. We played on shitty grass fields and didn't care two shits about it. Now, my 5 year old is playing youth soccer on FCPS turf fields? It's just excessive and unnecessary. Meanwhile, the same toilet at my son's FCPS middle school has been out of service for 6 weeks now. I told him to take a dump on the turf field the next time he needed to go...they'd fix that toilet by the end of the day.

I prefer grass to turf as a playing surface. But turf fields will eventuality pay for themselves. The amount of staff time and cost to maintain (mow grass, paint lines, water grass), reschedule games for weather (buses, officials) is mostly eliminated. Money made from football supports most of the other sports.

The county covers coaching stipends (which are dismal), bus transportation and that's about it. All funds for equipment must be raised by each school. So when they talk about eliminating sports it's a drop in the bucket of what FCPS spends.

But I do agree that HS bathrooms are nasty. Doors that don't lock, broken sinks, toilets don't work, no towels or soap, or the dispensers are missing completely. Nothing gets fixed. Plus the kids don't value property or how their school looks, so they destroy the shit out of it.

A Kid in my class says his dad made a anonymous complaint against Coach rutherford. His dad is pissed cuz he ddin't make varsity but is playing at some crap college caled Saint Mary's so he has to be good enough to play at Braddock. Says he wanted to take the coach down so he made up some shit and sent it to the administration. What a dick. Funny thing is the whole class heard him, so he isn't anonymous.

Lake Braddock for years has cheated the system especially getting good players that do not live in their district and letting them enroll in school there. It is oblivious that the higher up in FCPS do not care because it has been going on for years. Until the parents complain more than one or two but as a group nothing will not happen. The sad part having these kids on the teams keeps their child off the team. What schools do to win. Sad.

About half of the 24 kids on the team have a base school other than Lake Braddock, they people place in for various reasons. Lake Braddocks baseball team is historically in the top three HS baseball programs in virginia and histroically the most successful sport at the school, its only natural for it to attract baseball talent from around the county.

The former principal of LBSS resided in another county, AND his dear offspring was a "star" baseball player for LBSS. How do you like them apples -- families with student-athletes who actually reside in Burke, Fairfax County?

The former principal paid tuition for his son to attend Lake Braddock. I bet he wishes he could get a refund. Check your facts.
