Hey everyone, I'm new to the area and I was just wondering, how safe is the Annandale, Va area? Are there a lot of police? Any gangs of any sort? Can a girl walk alone to the store?

Cops are more concerned about writing traffic tickets in this area. They will not be concerned with your personal safety.

And as far as gangs... you must not read the papers.

Annandale? ANNANDALE??

Have you even looked outside your window? Yes. It is a bad area. Not as bad as Southeast DC, but for NoVA, it's a bad area. As for walking alone to a store, if you are attractive, expect to be accosted by MS-13 wannabes.

I lived off of Columbia Pike when I was 19. Even though that was 7 years ago, my roomates practically forbid me from walking the 3 blocks to "s'levin" alone. Luckily, someone was always willing to walk with me; we drank a lot of slurpees back then.

I've lived in Annandale for 20 years and the most significant crime that has ever occured in my neighborhood is a break in. There are about 2 places in Annandale that I wouldn't walk in at night, but for the most part it is perfectly fine. Women walk alone at night in my neighborhood all the time.

There are supposedly gangs, but they've never bothered anyone that I've ever heard of or known.

Annandale is loaded with gang members. If you believe some of the people on here about it being safe check out the state police website for sex offenders.

Some of the people on there are hard core.

what about the rt 1 area? i hear its pretty bad, is that true?

Yeah its pretty bad there. Right down the road in the City of Alexanadria is bad also. that entire area has a lot of crime. its probably only goin to get worse

Anything on Rte 1 south of the Beltway and north of Belvoir is a problem. Good place to get stabbed or shot while trying to buy a pack of cigs or a Big Gulp after 10pm.

Yes, it is bad from Florida to Maine. Avoid at all costs.
