Cohen: High school’s apology for patriotism is a step too far
http://www.bostonherald.com/news/columnists/adriana_cohen/2017/03/cohen_high_school_s_apology_for_patriotism_is_a_step_too_far

You know political correctness has gone off the rails — and free speech is under assault — when high school students in America’s Heartland can’t wear red, white and blue to a basketball game without being called “racist” and “white nationalists.”

Since when is having pride in one’s country racist?

It gets worse. Not only were some patriotic students at Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa, attacked for wearing USA-themed attire at a game on March 8, their own high school administrators and some politically correct students issued a public apology for any refugees or immigrants on the rival basketball team from Des Moines North High, or anyone else who might have been offended by the colors of the American flag.

Memo to Snowflake High: You put the “W” in wimp. Talk about the Wussification of America!

Do these disrespectful high school administrators and clueless PC students understand how much blood and treasure has been lost on the battlefield by our brave veterans defending our flag and freedom?

Are spineless school officials at Valley High who penned that nauseating apology aware that right now thousands of American men and women in uniform are risking their lives in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and other conflict zones around the globe protecting what those three colors represent?

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I’ll tell you this: Iowa students don’t have freedom when they’re not allowed to dress themselves without being shamed by “refugees” and other anti-American individuals who don’t like patriotism or our flag.

If anyone thinks school officials or any American apologizing for wearing USA-themed clothing is acceptable, it’s worth noting that in Muslim countries under Sharia law, if a woman leaves the house without her burka or hijab she risks jail, lashing or stoning in the public square. So yes, we should be taking students’ right to dress themselves without public rebuke seriously. Because if shaming citizens for wearing the colors of our flag is Stage 1, I shudder to think what’s next.

Should we ban America’s participation in the Olympics, now that USA-themed clothing has been now deemed offensive by the politically correct crowd?

This is certifiably insane. The Islamic State must be celebrating. Any day patriotic American attire is deemed offensive, they manufacture another burka.

Let that sink in.
