How many times have you/your parents accidentally driven into the CIA
Posted by: Broncostar4444 ()
Date: June 08, 2005 09:04PM

My mom has driven into the CIA accidentally three times. The last time, I was in the car with her, and it was pretty scary. All these policemen with machine guns were standing around the car. It was pretty dark, which didn't help. But, thanks to a little racial profiling, we got out without a fine! That made me laugh.

Remember, this was my mom, not me. I guess she was just in a rush? It can be misleading sometimes, going into that right lane... I don't know.
At any rate, hopefully she won't do it again...

I'm assuming you're talking about accidentally taking the exit for the CIA off of the GW Parkway or something? Either way...it's quite surprising that she did it 3 times. I mean the sign isn't that small.

I've never done it with the CIA building, but I've accidently turned into military bases several times. Sometimes you get cool dudes, that'll just wave you through for a u-turn, and other times you get the jerks that try to intimidate you (or whatever it is they do), and make a scene over nothing.

I drive in and out of Quantico all of the time for work, and they've never even so much as glanced in the back of my truck, which is usually full of bulky black cases. (I work on GPS equipment for a construction company)

I think he's talking about the CIA on Sunrise Valley Drive. There are several turn lanes along that section of Sunrise Valley and it's easy to turn into entrance at the CIA, especially when it's dark.

For obvious reasons, there are no signs and you don't realize you've made the wrong turn until you're off Sunrise Valley and the guards come to "greet" you. By then, the only way to get back on Sunrise Valley is by doing some serious back up, turn, forward, back up, .......... It's hard enough to try to get out of the tight area and back onto Sunrise Valley drive under normal conditions - it's near impossible when you have a small military arsenal fixed on your vehicle.

Prior to widening Sunrise Valley, the entrance set back a few lanes and there was a bern to discourage people from turning into the site. Now, the entrance nearly abuts the road and once you make the turn up to the fence, it's a masterful task turning around and getting back on the road before the "johnny on the spot" guards appear and intimidate

I've done this at the main entrance on 123. I was intending to turn right at Georgetown Pike and turned too early. There is no place to turn around ahead of the guard stand. They were brief in their intimidation: "We could arrest you for this." It was the winter after 9/11/01; remember the security then. Fortunately, it was snowing heavily, so they chalked it up to innocent error.

My mom drove into an Army base around here once on accident, it was in Maryland but I don't remember the name. They just let us in the gate to turn around. I don't know how the fuck they could arrest you if you stop at the gate for making a wrong turn.

I did the same thing (twice) - the 1st instance I was in high school and just fucked up. The guards were cool - just pull over here, let us check your car and ID and then you can go through and immediately turn around. They did say if you don't turn around and keep heading in, we will open fire (but in a semi-joking fashion).

Then the 2nd time I think my brain was on auto pilot and I turned one turn too early on my way to G'town Pike. During college I worked at the New HQ building, so I guess my brain thought it was 1992 again. The guards that time were dicks. After a bunch of harassment they use the "we can arrest you for trespassing" line, to which I replied "if that's what's required for a simple wrong turn, you do what you need to do". Then they just said "get outta here". That was pre-9/11..

In years past, the G W Parkway gate at Turner Fairbanks used to stay open from 1500 to 1900 to allow employees quick access to the parkway.

About 10 years ago, there was a traffic jam on the GWP nortbound.

I drove right up to the CIA/FHWA gate, it was open, and I drove through the facility past the little cemetery to the southern exit near the FARM. Locals will know what I am talking about.

The Farm gate was closed but the sensor kicked in and it opened.

This was before September 11.

I would not try it today.

Sorry, you FAIL. The CIA "farm" is no located at the Langley facility. You are, at least, in the right state.

As for the rest of your story, it is BS as well.

I am not referring to the facility near Williamsburg.

I am referring to the Claude Moore Colonial Farm at Turkey Run.

Locals have been bringing their children there for years.

I read how the DOD Pentagon police are racking up all sorts of DUIs lately because drunk drivers coming back into VA from DC get lost in the maze of roads late at night and there's usually not too much traffic there late so they are easy to spot.

Real money maker for DOD.

You got that right. They start speeding down Route 110, have to take a leak, pull over into the vertiginous parking lots and get nailed by DOD.

We love it when you beg!

At least the Chantilly building has a turn around right before the guard station. In Reston, you are not just stuck at the guard post, but you are backing up traffic out on to the main road if you pull in by mistake.

It's set up that way at langley ever since that gunman jumped out of the bush and killed 2 people. they changed the entire entrance, exit, and roadway to make it very easy to drive in there. They want it that way to keep all those polish pistols from getting too bored. At least 20 people a day drive in there by mistake and many of them get arrested or ticketed. They'll make a mountain out of any molehill. I used to voluteer at Claude Moore farm and always glanced over where cia police were hassleing someone who entered by mistake

Intimidating?? Hardly. Civilian H1's driven in suburbia scream "pretentious douchebag". Your post for that matter screams "pretentious douchebag". It probably gave you a hard-on to draw the attention of men armed with real guns after a day of playing make-believe with paintball guns.

Really? Everyone on this thread that pulled into each of their locations has to be pretty damn unobservant. I mean each one of the locations Reston and off of 123 are pretty well delineated from the rest of traffic with signage all around. The HQ off of 123 has literally a sign saying CIA Headquarters next right. Also you are instructed to go to the right for the visitors entrance and NOT straight through. If you can read there would be absolutely no problem. And for those of you complaining about guards being dicks, you understand that multiple people were SHOT right on that entrance road right? That they are guarding the entrance to a National intelligence center? The first person they do not treat as a threat is the person that will be carrying a bomb or weapon.

Moral of the story PAY ATTENTION while driving.

My brother tried to make a u turn out of one of those cia buildings that everyone is supposed to pretend aren't in fact cia buidings, and the Military police tore his car apart for a good 20 minutes before letting him leave, for no other reason than after he entered by accident, they detained him for being "suspicious".
