where to get cash for scrap computer equipment?
Posted by: newguy ()

I have loads of computers that I have scrap down and I am looking to find a place that I can take them and get $$. I dont know if I can just take them to one place or if I need to go to a couple different ones. I have seperated everything by motherboards, cpu processors, ram, hard drives, cd/dvd drives, metal boxes, plastic, aluminum, and daughter boards. If there is anyone who knows anything your input would be much appreciated.

Sounds like it needs to go to the trash you will get approximately $0.00. What do you have? Year/specs

Unless it's pretty current stuff, ffxstoner is right -- it's basically worthless.

ObAnecdote: about four years ago, my office ordered a bunch of rack servers. For some reason, Dell sent them with 17" monitors (CRTs -- this was before LCDs were ubiquitous). When we called Dell, they said not to bother sending them back, and they didn't charge us for them.

We called around, and nobody wanted them, not even schools. They sat in one corner of the office for a few months, then we PAID to have them hauled away. New. In sealed boxes.

Nothing depreciates like computer hardware...

Tell me what you have because I'm in the market for comp parts. I am wondering if you have any monitors too. We can arrange a meeting.

Your best bet would be to put up a listing for each item on ebay, with technical specs and pictures.

There may be somebody out there who needs what you got.

People look for, and find, all sorts of odd, specific stuff there.

Don't expect to get rich, but you can probably make a few bucks if you invest the time into putting up the listings.

You have to pay to list shit on ebay. Use craigslist.

Most of the stuff won't be sold, but some things like CPUs and memory and some PCI cards and the like will be needed by someone.

Don't expect to get much for any of it though.

You should have just left each system intact and donated it to an organization that either sends them to developing countries or gives them to groups and people that can use them as a way to access the internet.

The function of conservatives is not to meet every liberal program or scheme with a denunciation or a destructive counterscheme, but rather to weigh its advantages and defects, supporting the first and challenging the second. A declaration of ideological warfare against liberalism is by its nature profoundly unconservative. It meets perceived radicalism with a counterradicalism of its own.

Wow, meaningless, boring, AND unhelpful. Please be either trenchant, funny, or at least clever. Or stay home.

If you have any Socket A motherboards that support the Duron processor, I'll pay you $5 for one.

It's not even worth your time any more to sell used equipment. Even giving it away on Craiglist is worthless. Most of the time, nobody even shows up, wasting your time.

A belated FYI...the Comittee to Help Others (CHO) in Vienna, will take complete computers and give you a tax receipt. They fix them up clean off the hard drives, and give them to needy families. When I donated mine, they were looking for Pentium IV's and up. Not sure if they would take CRT monitors, as they had piles of them..

Also, being completely unhelpful, I suppose, I don't have their contact info..."Comittee to Help Others" in Vienna is all I recall

Contact the Torpedo Factory or any of the metal or jewelry artisan guilds. Many artisans recycle the boards into jewelry and clocks. They probably won't pay much, but at least you'll know they are being recycled.

I can't comment on the money you'll get back, or whether or not they'll screw you, but I do know that PC Retro supposedly buys used computer parts and equipment.

I send my boards to www.ComputerScrapForCash.com. They are open to the public and there prices are very competitive. I will not send my stuff again without knowing how much i will get to others. Ebay is nice but with seller limits and trying to make a business ebay is not good. Dana over there is real nice and she will usually give you a lil more than posted just ask....

I take apart 3.5" and 5.25" floppy drives for their stepping motors.

There's gold in just about all electronics - at $1500+/oz even a little goes a long way!
