Construction of Chantilly Wegmans underway

http://wtop.com/money/2017/03/construction-chantilly-wegmans-underway/

Regency Centers Corporation is developing The Field at Commonwealth, a $45 million shopping center at the intersection of Virginia Route 28 and Westfields Boulevard.

The Field at Commonwealth will seek Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and will pursue environmentally friendly construction practices.

Regency has not yet named other tenants for the development. The development’s construction is expected to be completed by next year, though it is still unclear when Wegmans and other tenants would complete their build-outs and open.

“The Field at Commonwealth is going to transform the Chantilly and Westfields areas into a vibrant retail corridor in Northern Virginia,” said Devin Corini, vice president of investments for Regency Centers.

“The unrivaled product offering and shopping experience that Wegmans is known for will serve the surrounding community well,” he said.

In the D.C. region, Wegmans currently has five stores in Northern Virginia and one in Germantown, Maryland. This will be the third Wegmans in Fairfax County.

Yes.........Since the NRO is across the street and many other contractors in other buildings, their food court is going to have to be huge............

What a great place for a $45M shopping center with a Wegman's anchor store! Not like Westfields Blvd at 28 is already screwed up or anything like that from 5-7 every night.

I work across the street from where this Wegmans is going. Traffic is a bitch now. I can't imagine how bad it's going to be in a year when traffic if effectively doubled. Who approves this shit? Did they do a traffic analysis? If they did, whoever greenlighted this should be tied to the stake and burned.

I lived in Rochester NY (near Wegman's mothership) in the late 90's, Wegman's thought their shit didn't stink back then. I agree, it's a FUCKING grocery store. You can throw in 90 different depts....eventually biz will slow in those specialty areas and it will cost the store money...then what? Raise prices.

I notice they avoid the question about how much they will charge for paid parking!

Regardless of/if any analysis done, sure the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors voted for it to increase county tax revenue.

I have lived off of Westfeilds Blvd for over 6 years now, and the traffic gets worse every year. It takes about 55 minutes to an hour and a half on any given week day between 5-8 PM to travel from my job in Manassas up 28 to get off the exit for Westfeilds Blvd to turn off on Sully Station. Stone Rd and Braddock are no fucking better!

I already feel like a suicidal maniac with voilent road rage during my normal back and forth commutes. Fuck this plan to build yet another unecessary and overpriced strip mall with a mammoth grocery mall.....FUCKKK!!!

Indeed, I work in Chantilly and live in Centreville. Every time I leave around 5, its now taking me 40 minutes to go home instead of 10

Meaning that since it takes me that long to get home, it'll most likely take an hour now

Why sit in traffic when you could troll Wegmans for Milfs, I'm certain Nick the Dick could use a little help.

They do this to provide the necessity to build TONS of big new condo and townhouse developments around the areas where they put in the shopping centers (high end of course). Then, like they are doing now in LoudoUn, they have to erect signs all over the place warning the local inhabitants that '"Farmwell" Road (or insert here your own favorite and only escape route to your job) must be expanded over the next 5 years to the size of Route 28' in order to handle all the new traffic caused by the gentrification of the green grassy pasture fields into high rise yuppy communities built out for 5 miles around the new high end townhouse/condo rabbit warrens built around the classy new Wegmans-' --
-anchored high end brand new "town center" mall. You think it's bad now.....just wait a bit---
Then, when thousands of newcomers buy into the new housing and discover that it takes them 1 1/2 hours to get to their jobs just a few miles down the road, and they start vociferously complaining about it like you are, the county gets the hand with the high card out on the table and passes a bill in Richmond to up your taxes to pay for a new railroad spur out to where you live, due to be finished after the road widening gets done, and which will tack on another 5 years of waiting for you.

That's the way the developers maximize their income here. It is known as amoebic growth planning, as it just keeps on flowing outward from these new malls.

Hey, it's all in the master plan........
