How much does the Washington Post's death spiral contribute to their biased coverage?
Posted by: Inquisitive One ()

What is the reason for the WaPo's hysterical news coverage. Are they so fearful that the next day's edition will be the last that they are resorting to tabloid type journalism to create clicks and stimulate subscriptions or is it just the result of a work force that was brainwashed through education or driven by an obsessed owner and politically driven editors?

Though they might attracted a certain audience with their pro LGBT coverage, they also alienated a lot of other readers. Since the WP post is read, for some now in digital form, by those leading the country, not sure if Trump reads it, but I expect it influenced Obama in his pro LGBT policies, against the Word of Christian God contributing to this country's moral decline in those eight years. IMO only worthwhile pieces of it is the grocery store manufacturer coupons, which get from a neighbor who still buys the WP, and Dr. Gridlock to some extent available online. Both myself five years ago and a relative recently canceled subscriptions to WP, delivery issues plus for here cannot morally bankroll a liberal newspaper. For myself, so many Internet sources for news, like FU here for relevant local news. I even reject the free Washington Post Express handed out at Metro stations. For so much of the content of the paper, unlike several years ago past, ads for stores online (paper coupons in it at store front door), some use digital coupons store specific, TV Guide can be bought as a separate subscription, news available elsewhere including on smartphones.

Like the huge paper telephone books, half of which when delivered, not collected by my neighbors (I only keep it if a power outage, otherwise available on Internet), the paper newspaper also for some just killing trees and increasing county recycling costs. There are some, elderly or non-Internet connected, who may still prefer a printed paper copy, but for rest of us, we are going green by going digital with these, much/most/all of these advertising. It is interesting though large companies not care about going green if they are advertising to you, such as all of those postal mail circulars, flyers, and catalogs (I've basically unsubscribed to it unless it is addressed to resident), but when it comes to customer service, they want you to go green for sure, to increase wealth of their company stockholders.

I know I am digressing from the topic, but paper bills still serve a need and friends agree with me. Though I pay online at company websites, still receive the paper bill. Just like a relative in the hospital month, it better allows a trusted relative or person to take over your bill paying if you simply sign a few blank checks and that person has access to their mailbox. In such a situation online, you have to have the password, enter credit card or bank info if not already saved on the website. True automatic payments can overcome that, but not trust it especially if amounts vary month to vary, and when company auto-dedects from your checking account, much fun and time getting your money back if an error.

The paper sucks now. I'm stuck with a 1 year subscription that I got cheap ($100). The "weather gang" webpage is the only thing worthwhile. The A section should just be called "Anti-Trump". Style is a waste of paper. Local is anti-metro. It's gone down the shitter since Amazon bought it out. And what happened to the car reviews?

Hmmm, I don't think you know what 'death spiral' means?

http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/12/27/507140760/big-newspapers-are-booming-washington-post-to-add-sixty-newsroom-jobs

"After a year of record traffic and digital advertising revenue, the Post newsroom will grow by more than 8 percent, to more than 750 people. The extent of the newsroom expansion was first reported by Politico. The Post will add a "rapid-response" investigative team, expand its video journalism and breaking news staff, and make additional investments in podcasts and photography."

I have a hard time believing an organization that very well be raising their next payroll by begging for pennies on the street corner and has a vested interest in perpetuating the liberal rag. As for the Washington Post goes, the old adage of figures don't lie but liars can figure certainly applies. As with most of what the WaPo prints today there is a small element of truth to your post, however, both their Sunday and weekday circulation is roughly one half of the 1995 circulation and if their circulation is increasing it is due to deeply discounted subscriptions like the one cited above which may contribute to the clicks and temporary circulation statistics but contributes little or nothing to its long term profitability.

You can essentially get free viewing of the WaPo by reading until they start blocking content and then clear your cache, which is the only way to realize any value from reading the rag.

“[Jeff Bezos] recently secured a $600 million contract from the CIA. That’s at least twice what Bezos paid for the Post this year. Bezos recently disclosed that the company’s Web-services business is building a ‘private cloud’ for the CIA to use for its data needs.”

You can choose not to believe, it doesn't make the fact go away.
Of course, all newspapers are in decline because of technology, not liberal agenda.
You said 'death spiral' they clearly aren't.
Also visiting the site and clearing the cache still helps them.
It counts as a 'unique' visit that advertisers look for.

Stopped subscribing and can access whatever content I want on web site (just clear your browser cache and you get 10 more free articles).

The reporter who covers FFX is a gay-looking dude named Antonio Olivo, and is a major douchebag who only writes trash about anything that happens in the county.

who is going to PAY to read a communist liberal blog except the same? and if it's communist paper then everyone gets it for free. next question when are they getting bailed out and when are they going to begin forcing people to read their articles ?

really jeff bezoz may have corrected many of their OLD PROBLEMS. but i kinda doubt it - i'd rather think they bought use of his name and are moreso having illegals write articles who are trying to persuade Wash, DC to throw away the Constitution, forget who owes money to who, and be led by foreign communists

If they can make the business model work with free visits to the website then I am fine with that position. They have a monopoly on coverage in the DMV area but will never see another penny from me.

Circulation figures have not been printed for over 3 years so it is not known the depths to which they have sunk. If business is prospering it is on subscriptions of $39 annual subscriptions which will NEVER be renewed upon expiration.

Reading the Washington Post became very hard work! After reading an article you have to read other sources of the same news so that you know the omitted facts, the distorted facts and the part of the article was not news but just the author's distorted and biased opinion. Then if you are brave enough to wade into their editorials I just wish you luck. Over the past three to four years they have come totally unhinged and the line between biased and fake news becomes hard to distinguish.

I once was a loyal reader of the WaPo realizing that their coverage was tilted left and you had to make accommodations for their bias. To adjust for the bias I just read the Washington Times and sort of accepted the middle as the true story. As their fiscal problems increased their reporting became more Enquirer like but I tolerated their bullshit because the Washington Times coverage breadth was lacking and did not cover the local sports. Then that fucking monster from outer space Jeff Bezos bought the paper and it became a daily temper tantrum spouting out articles based in half truths and rumors. Six months ago I quit my subscription and have read it less and less. I have now almost quit reading the damn thing and do not feel as if I am missing a thing. In fact, I can actually say that I feel much better because I no longer punch holes in the wall from the anger that they create with their fake news. My only real regret is that they banned me from their comments section for my constant complaints about their fake news.

Hitting the all-lib socialist fake news cuircuit makes them eligible to be subsidized by soros' millions. That would not happen if they stuck to real balanced news coverage much less the truth.

Decided to check the front page of the online Washington Post, er, Ministry of Truh today since they are in full hateful rage today. Nice job of fair and balanced news coverage.

These so-called journalists are harming America and therefore are targets for RWDS.

I don't think it's just about money.

They'd attack Trump relentlessly whatever their financial condition.

They want to control the narrative with a gullible public.

An agenda plus anonymous sources should make one very skeptical.

I enjoy participating in their comments section after reading one of their tabloid stories.

I flat out ream them and to their credit they print my posts.

Their worst offender as far as anti-Trump tabloid crap is Philip Bump. His writing is simply to used as toilet paper after a big meal.

I disagree. Top of the anti-Trump tabloid garbage producer is Jenna Johnson. She was assigned to cover his campaign, which ended up being 24/7 anti-Trump cat box liner stories.
