This afternoon, Colonel Edwin C. Roessler Jr., Chief of Police, received a copy of a temporary restraining order (020617temporary-restraining-order) regarding the release of the name of a Fairfax County Police Department officer involved in a fatal shooting on January 16, 2017. Late today, the Chief released this statement:

“The risk assessment process has not been finalized. Since the risk assessment process is not complete, I have not made a decision regarding the name release. This process exists to determine if there is any credible threat against the officer. I will carefully monitor and follow any and all legal decisions in this matter.”

The Chief will appear in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia (Alexandria), this Thursday at 1 p.m. for a preliminary injunction hearing regarding the matter.

Interesting the TRO is just good until later today (Thursday) in which there is a new hearng. The TRO pushed the planned Tuesday release till possible today (2 days). The document lays out that the officer is not expecting a permanent or long term delay in their name release. I wonder why they want the short-term hold. Is the guy moving? or are they trying to round up someone?

More likely he's just doing some things that'll make it harder for the nuts to harass him and his family anonymously. He's probably getting phone number changes, and maybe removing his and his family's social media presence or having other information scrubbed from the Internet.

There was some serious invective fired off at Adam Torres' family, especially after his wife naïvely (or foolishly, depending on how you look at these things) created a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for her family following his being busted. However, everyone knew pretty quickly that the Geer shooting was a bad one, long before Torres was busted.
