Nacy's @ Landmark Closing
Posted by: Springfield Guy ()

Federated Department Stores announced today that 68 stores would be closing their doors by the end of the first quarter. Among those stores announced was the Macy's @ Landmark Mall in Alexandria. Used to shop there when it was Hecht's with my parents as a kid before Fair Oaks opened. Can't say I am surprised. Springfield Mall Macy's rumored to be on the chopping block soon as well as consolidation of the two Macy's at Fair Oaks!

Jeez...that's a shame about Nacy's, what with Nacy's being such a nice store. There was nothing like the service at...Nacy's. Nacy's had that great soda fountain and diner upstairs which did not serve the black savage nor mud people. Yup...Nacy's will be missed.

Fortunately, we'll still be able to shop at Macy's though...

There is a Macy's at Springfield, Landmark, and Pentagon City. They really don't need all 3.

There are 2 Macy's at Fair Oaks, and 2 Macy's at Tysons. They could close one store at each.

Doesn't surprise my that Macys is closing. Picture below is how crowded it was in Landmark on Saturday just before Christmas this year. I really thought Sears would go belly up first though. Im not buying that Macys Springfield will close anytime soon.

It makes sense to keep one at Springfield and one at Pentagon City
They should close one at Tysons and one at Fair Oaks, in addition to Landmark.

Used to go there for the Ticket Master outlet when everyone had to get there early to line up outside for the first chance for good seats.

The Macy's at Tysons Galleria is not specifically scheduled to close, but they did sell their site to General Growth Properties, which owns the mall, for $38 million.

Macy's is currently leasing the store back from GGP for the short term, but if they don't do well, I'm sure they will close it. GGP wants to redevelop and expand the Galleria anyway, because there's no shortage of moneyed folks wanting to drop lots of coin on shit in that area.

See Macy's press release at http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=84477&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=2234057 and the article about Macy's sale at http://www.bizjournals.com/washington/news/2016/11/21/changes-coming-to-tysons-galleria-after-macy-s.html

The Macy's in Tyson's are in to two different shopping malls, Tyson's Corner Center and Tyson's Galleria, so I could see them keeping them both, because a lot times people go to one mall and not the other.

Tyson's 2/Galleria

I have lived in the area for 52 years. I spent more time in the "Pits" than I have at Tyson's 2/Galleria.

I think I have been to Tyson's 2/Galleria a few times to the Cheesecake Factory and this is about it.

Not sure who actually shops at Tyson's 2/Galleria.

There's anything still open at all at Landmark?
I thought the entire mall was already abandoned!

There is also a large, 4-level Macy's at Ballston that will be renovated as part of the mall reconstruction. The renovated mall will be mostly outdoors and is designed to resemble The Bloc development in downtown LA. The target demographic is 20s-early 30s, and a high end bowling alley like the one in Bethesda will anchor one part of the mall.

I thought it would be dead by now too. Landmark is a zombie mall- it wont die. Seriously I dont see Landmark able to survive without Macys. and on top of that

sears is selling rights for Craftsman to B&D

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/01/05/sears-to-sell-craftsman-tool-brand-to-stanley-black-decker.html

Sears is toast. No real reason to go there now.

Retail merchandising businesses aren't leaving, they are just closing. In all honesty, how many businesses selling the same thing do we really need in one county? Many counties in the middle of the country have a WalMart, strip mall, Chinese carryout and Pizza carry out and they survive life just fine. Perhaps it would be better if retailers really did leave. Mexico, Singapore , China and Vietnam need more places to buy the same stuff. They haven't reached retail saturation point yet , Fairfax County surpassed retail merchandising saturation many years ago.
