Schools for emotionally disturbed children

Are there any schools in the area that help emotionally disturbed children? I am trying to do research for parents of a student in my class. A live in facility may be an option.

Please don't say a private school. I teach at a private school. Private schools are not equipped to handle these sorts of issues unless they advertise as such. A small class size is not what this student needs, they need much more help than a typical private school can offer.

Thanks

Whatever you do, DON'T put them in military school.

That will only make it WORSE.

OK I thought of worse than that-

RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS, CHRISTIAN schools to be specific. With all the pedos around trying to touch kids who have no way to communicate they have been violated.

Just saying, research CAREFULLY and try to get interviews with kids who graduated from said schools, see what THEY say, not the faculty/school itself who is simply trying to sell their services.

Most FCPS students are now considered emotionally disturbed. And when they graduate, they will be disturbing the rest of us with their emotions.

I don't know it meets your child's specific needs but I have heard good things about Oakwood School in Annandale. Another nearby option is Phillips School also in Annandale. Both are private.

If you are looking at public schools, the Falls Church school system used to have a good reputation for children with special needs, but you would have to live in the city limits.

Fairfax County has a special school for high-school aged retarded people but I don't know what it is called. Just remember someone who worked there telling me about it.

Just go to your local school and ask. There are at least a dozen schools that Fairfax County will transport your child too. That service had grown from 7 vehicles to 77 in the last 5 years.

I heard The New School is where the well off psychos get sent. The parents won't go for it if religious or right wing.

That is the Pulley Center at West Potomac.

Why the R word? Short bus riders have feelings too.

Why not a regular school and regular classes? We're all constantly beat over the head with crap like, "they're just like you and me". So why the special treatment?
